I had an ultrasound at 6w4d and we could see what looked almost like a little worm with buds (our baby) and the yolk sac. We also could see and got to hear the heartbeat. It was great! I think how great of an image you see depends on the ultrasound machine too.

@KJfromNJ: @jetsa: At my OB office, they generally go by the LMP date, but if you're measuring more than a week off (based on those early ultrasounds), they will change it. So if you did ovulate a week+ later than the "CD 14" normal, my office would probably end up changing the due date to reflect that.

@KJfromNJ: @jetsa: my paperwork still has LMP based due date, but every time I go, I tell the doctor that I think I ovulated on CD 21 and she is in complete agreement that I'm measuring in accordance with that.

I had a u/s at 4.5 and 5.5 weeks and could see little black dot.
U/S at 6.5 and 7.5 both showed yolk sac and baby's heart beat

@KJfromNJ: @jetsa: usually as long as your due date based on LMP is within a week of the ultrasound due date, they go by the LMP due date. For my first pregnancy the dates were off by a few days so they went by LMP. This pregnancy it was off by a week and a half so they are going by the date the ultrasound gave.

@KJfromNJ: I have the same question. I think I O'd early CD10-12 and the doctors don't take it into account at all they use LMP. I mean the ultrasound tech looked at it and measured but then she asked what I was based on LMP and said yep that sounds about right. I decided not to push it because it gives the bean some more time at the end if it decides to be late. ;)

My appt tomorrow is (based on my calculations) 6w1d so I was excited to read this thread! They see patients first between 6-8 weeks so I hope to get a u/s :)

Question- since cycle lengths can vary, and O date can be late, etc, couldn't two people who started their cycle the same day have different O dates and be a week-ish apart? Wouldn't one baby measure ahead? I thought that's what doctors check for, measuring and such, to give you a more accurate due date? I O'd between CD18-20 but couldn't it be earlier or later for other women? Sorry... still learning :)

@lemong: Dating from both conception and my last period, I get the same due date - October 15 - so I am 5 weeks right now either way. But I am actually very sure about the fateful date of conception. :)

It was the midwife practice who said after February 20, after they had said 7 weeks, and I guess I should have clarified. Maybe I can call back and ask... but I feel kind of silly.

Pregnancy is dated from the date of your last menstrual period, not the date of conception (since very few people actually know it). How far along would you be based on your last period? I think you'll probably be OK with your current appointment. But it might be worth a call to your midwife practice to run this by them?

I had one at 6 weeks 1 day and we saw a little blinky blob that was the heartbeat and a tiny yolk sac. Baby looked like an engagement ring :) They used it to check my ovaries and calculate my due date.

My midwife practice typically only does one ultrasound, at around 20 weeks, but they want me to have an ultrasound earlier because of my ovarian cyst. They said they could also check on the pregnancy at the same time.

At first, they said to schedule it when I am at least 7 weeks pregnant. Then, they said I could schedule it anytime after February 20th, so I scheduled it for the 21st. But then I realized I will actually only be 6 weeks along then. I'm 99.9% sure of the date of conception so I'm pretty confident that I am 6 weeks.

What will they be able to see at 6 weeks? Is this kind of weird or should I chill out?
