@blackbird: Did you just use something like a sewing needle? (sterilized of course) My nurse offered to have my come in and have her and the Dr do it, but truthfully if it's something simple like that, I'm not going to pay for the stupid office visit if I can just do it!

Yea, nursing is excruciating, if I can do anything to help it, I'm going to. Well maybe tonight when I get home I will commit to trying it. How did you soften the skin before peeling the skin?

@MrsBrewer: nursing hurt more than anything else! I just made sure to put the needle under a flame for a bit. I got scolded for it, too, but I called around and couldn't get anyone to actually do it for me! So I had no option. The LC wouldn't do it, my OB didn't want to make me her Guinea pig.....so yeah.

@blackbird: Good to know! Yea I definitely think I have a fully blocked one then. I never see any milk leaking out at all. I'm just so scared of trying to peel the skin back. I was talking to a nurse on the phone, and she said it can get infected really easily, and you have to be so careful. Plus I'm such a wimp, and I feel like it's going to hurt SO bad!!

@MrsBrewer: yes haven't had any issues since! I could tell it was partial because when you looked at it, it was definitely a bleb, but milk would drop slowly out the side. Never stream, just always dripped slowly like a faucet. And it was a white bleb, but you could poke it with a needle and milk wouldn't just freely shoot out because it wasn't a totally blocked blister. I ended up peeling back the top layer of skin and using a washcloth to keep it from sticking back over the duct. If was raw and sore for a couple days (but nothing like bleb pain! Just felt like exposed skin), healed up, and no problems since

@blackbird: is it still going good? I've had a Bleb on my nipple for 2 months now, and the pain went away for awhile, but now it's back in full force. How did you know if it was a partial clog? I haven't tried popping it with a needle yet, but I think that's my next step

UPDATE:

I had the u/s therapy done 9 days ago and I thought it was total woo, but on the second night after treatment, T broke through the blister because i was in a different type of pain--more raw/sore/exposed skin. It was tender for a few days and I scrubbed it when it was healing so it didn't close over the duct, and now I am 100% pain free on that side! No weird pain in between sessions, no shooting sensations, no latch pain, and the duct is 100% clear and free flowing.

@blackbird: yes! I remember it being toe curling pain when she first latched and then it would subside. But it def still hurt when i pumped with my blebs, so i guess our blebs are different ☺ good luck. Hope the ultrasound works.

@SleepyMonkey: Well, it doesn't go away, but it doesn't hurt while I pump! But then I get home and offer that side to T and i'm like HOLY CRAP until i get a let down, then it's not painful at all. If the u/s therapy doesn't fix it, then the LC will refer me to the BFing medicine doctor here (who only takes referrals, anyways), to see if one of his ties reattached

@blackbird: aw ok. Sorry. I know how frustrating these blebs are. My last suggestion is changing up nursing positions every time so there isnt too much friction on that one spot...does it go away when you pump for a few sessions? Then maybe you could at least determine whether it is caused by babys latch or not.

Hmm. I have recurring blebs. They come back every week and they block an entire pore so it is painful while nursing and the milk gets stuck too. I don't know why but lecithin really helps. I take 4 pills a day and they have stopped recurring. If i even miss one pill, the bleb starts forming again. I don't know if it is something about the composition of my milk that triggers an inflammatory response of the skin? I am perplexed by how lecithin keeps them at bay, but it works for me. Have you tried that?

@Corduroy: Yeah, i get blanching, but i'll get it randomly. It seems unrelated to the pain. I'll get it randomly, but it also seems more pronounced when i have the blanching. i don't even get it right after i feed him, it's hours later sometimes. I don't understand.

@Boopers: During both let down and while eating. She had a hard time feeling around in there but thought he had a small lip tie, too. *shrug* I don't know!

Do you notice he is clicking the entire feeding or only during your let down? LO had a revision too and I was worried about clicking that I heard afterwards. My LC said that the clicking can be when the letdown is fast and he's trying to control the flow. I noticed that the clicking only happens when I have a let down and when the flow slows down there is no clicking sound. Can you see any reattachment?

My OB mentioned ultrasound treatments when I was getting clogged ducts fairly consistently. I never wound up getting the therapy, but it sounded interesting.

@blackbird: I've never heard of the ultrasound treatment. Sounds interesting. I had a question about your pain. I'm getting pain 10-15 minutes after feeding. Part of my nipple turns white at the same time so I was suspecting vasospasm However, I also have a bleb that is partially blocked on that breast and don't feel a clog. I hadn't considered that the two might be related. Do you have any nipple color change with your pain?

Has anyone had a bleb treated with ultrasound? I've got this bleb and it's only partially blocked. It has hurt for over a month now and I met with a lactation consultant last night who recommended epsom soaks and ultrasound therapy for it, before moving on to more invasive things like lancing (and i've tried with a needle myself to no avail). If it doesn't go away, she'll refer me to a doctor who is a breastfeeding specialist because she suspects T's tie may have grown back a bit (he clicks while eating).

Anyways, just wondering if anyone had it done and if it helped. No idea where the clog is. I don't feel one, so it could be deep. But i do get stabbing/burning pain between feedings as it subsides. Just on that one side.
