Probably around 1.5 weeks? I don't remember now. It fell off as one piece over night, I found it in her sleeper in the morning when I did a diaper change. It was yellowish and raw looking where it came off but dried up within the same day or so? It didn't smell and we didn't do anything special besides gently wipe it during bath.

It fell off at 4 days old, except for a tiny piece which hung around for maybe 2 more days, I don't remember it smelling but I do remember that my friends DS cord stump smelled very gross before it fell off.

Just over 2 weeks for DS. It dried up and never got as brown as I remember seeing others. We could tell it was coming loose then it just fell out of his onesie during a diaper change.

2 weeks for our kid. Sounds like your LO will lose it soon. My son's came off in one piece, but I could tell it was loosening prior to it.

Ours fell off at 4 days (crazy!!) ... it smelled horrible. My midwives said it's basically composting. Gross, but true. The smell is normal. We were told not to use anything. Coconut oil was okay, if needed, but anything else could be damaging.

I went back and checked my diary, LO's stump fell off at exactly 2 weeks old. It came off in one piece, and was mostly dry, and had been hanging by a thread for a day or 2. It wasn't oozing, but his belly button seemed puffy or inflamed for a while before going down. We were told not to use alcohol, as that is more inflaming.

My daughter's came off right around the two week mark. Over a few days we could tell it was loosening. We noticed the same thing as you- that it seemed goopy underneath and would occasionally weep onto a onesie or tshirt. Finally while holding her one day it was sort of hanging by a thread and my husband clipped it with scissors!

DS was 7 days old when his came off. It smelled pretty funky in the beginning and as it dried out it was as bad. It was hanging on by a thread for two days before it fell off one morning while I was nrpursing him. Gross to reach down and find dead flesh stuck to my shirt! Yuck! I was so glad when it came off!

2.5 weeks. The majority came off at one time but it was a bit yellow and wet underneath. It dried up in a day or two. There was no stink that I noticed and we just let it air out.

My son's cord stump came off all in one piece, during a diaper change, just past 2weeks of age and looked (and smelled!) a lot like you are describing for a few days prior to that. Our ped applied some silver nitrate at our two week appt and the stump fell off the following day. It looked pale yellow and shiny underneath but closed up (?) within a day or so. Hope this helps!

When did your LO's stump fall off? M is 2 weeks old as of yesterday. On Friday we noticed some gross dry crumbly drainage stuff (sort of dark brown, reddish) around the stump and it started smelling kind of funky, so we took him to the ped. Pediatrician says it's not infected (not red or anything around the stump), she said just wipe around it with alcohol and Q-tips.

It is getting progressively stinkier though! Not like infection stinky (I guess??), but just like nasty dead tissue! It looks pretty dry and crumbly around the edges... is this a sign it's going to come off soon?

Also, how does the stump come off? Like did it just fall off entirely one day? Or does it come off in small pieces? We can see underneath it and it looks pretty goopy. Is it wet and pussy underneath? (Sorry, I know this is gross.)

Would love to hear your experiences!
