Our first DS had one, he was a preemie so I guess its common. It def got worse but then resolved on it's own. I think someone suggested putting a bandaid over it to position it/keep it pushed in as a method of encouraging healing. Don't quote me on that - could be an old wive's tale though.

O has an umbilical hernia and a ventral midline hernia just above it. Neither are as big as yours, although the ventral one is big enough for me to stick my thumb tip in. They are waiting at least another couple of years (she's 2 now) before they consider surgery on either one.

Also, congrats on the foster baby! Enjoy those snuggles. I'd love to hear more about her if you want to email :)

@anonysquire: A, my youngest, has an umbilical hernia and has since birth. Hers was not as big as your sweet little one's, but definitely when her belly is full it pops out a lot more. It looked worse/bigger when she was younger but now that she is 15 months, it's getting smaller. Our doc said they wouldn't consider surgery until she was 2 and wanted to see if it would close on its own.

We have a sweet foster baby and she has the biggest umbilical hernia that I’ve seen. My 2yr old had a small one and it went away on its own, I know hers will likely go away on its own. But has anyone had one that didn’t go away? Do they just do surgery? I swear when every baby cries, it threatens to pop.
