We use the First Years Jet for travel-- it's inexpensive but sturdy and folds up well. We also leave it in the back of my car in case we are out and about and need a stroller (DD is almost 2 so we don't routinely bring our regular stroller with us anymore).

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions. We are either going to just buy a bag and gate check our big stroller or invest in a mid priced umbrella. Heading to buy buy baby this weekend with the LO for a test drive (ride) :)

@sarah.clarisse: you can even gate check your B-agile. Just wanted to make sure you knew that. I have a gigantic B-ready and have flown with it several times with no issues. At security, someone will just walk it through the metal detector since it won't fit through the x ray machine....then before you board the plane, you leave it at the bottom of the gangway (jetway? Whatever they call those things that you use to walk onto the plane).

It's free to gate check and I've always used a cheapo bag to keep the stroller clean and it's been fine. We also gate checked the car seat.

I have the Yoyo - it's amazing! Although it fits in the overhead we sometimes have trouble convincing crew at the gate that it's really ok to have a stroller onboard. It feels sturdier than my maclaren and I love that it has one handle bar (so it's easier to steer one handed than a two handled umbrella stroller). Since it doesn't get checked, I'm ok that it was a pricey item. Before we got it, I used a Maclaren umbrella stroller that I bought secondhand (so I wasn't terribly concerned about gate checking it). Other than poor one handed steering, I was happy with that too!

@sarah.clarisse: this probably won't help but the nano is on zulily today- the stroller and a mb infant seat together are $350 (reg $400 for the two). I guess it would be a good deal if you also needed a car seat.

We've used the B-Agile before and it really wasn't that much of a pain. Though, I'd get the Nano if I wanted to drop some cash on a cool stroller. The First Years Jet or Ignite if I just wanted something sturdy.

@Mrs. Bee: It was essential for our last international trip - at the two airports outside the US, they didn't do a true "gate check" - we would have had to go through passport control without the stroller and pick it up on the baggage carousel on the other side. Such a lifesaver to be able to keep DS (and his carseat) on the stroller while waiting in the immigration lines!

@sarah.clarisse: well you can use bbb coupons on it, which you cannot do for uppababy. But yeah it's still a lot if you won't use it a ton.

Eta: I was so excited about the floor model that I was paranoid someone would take it out of our cart when I wasn't looking. Practically skipped out of the store. Dh was like, um ok weirdo. Also I kind of didn't tell him about the cheaper options.

I just got the mountain buggy nano and I'm slightly obsessed. It's not an umbrella, but it folds down small enough that you could carry it on and takes up no space in the car. And because it folds in thirds instead of collapsing like an umbrella stroller you can push it with one hand if need be (one handle bar instead of two hand holds). It also reclines and has a universal adapter for infant car seats (which I have not used). It feels pretty sturdy pushing my 21 lb one year old in it. It felt sturdier in the store than the gluxe, but te floor model was probably newer and less used.

Cons- two hands required to fold it, and it's not cheap- $200 retail. I got the floor model at bbb and used a coupon so it was a great deal.

This is a slightly different direction, but we love our Mountain Buggy Nano, and it folds small enough to fit in an overhead bin on a plane. So you don't even need to check it!

Ooooh, good luck, lady! When we went to Florida I bought a B-Nimble, Britaxs version of an "umbrella." It was mainly because it still had the car seat adapter in it, but it's pretty nice! Not sure if they make them still, but I got ours on amazon. It's definitely bigger than a typical one, but made way better and sturdier too.

We are heading to Denver next week and it will be our LO's first flight! He is 10 months old and we currently use a Britax B-Agile for our everyday stroller. He loves it... BUT I don't want to deal with checking such a large stroller on the flight. I also don't want to risk it getting damaged. I'm sure we will use any umbrella stroller we purchase for other outings after our trip, so I don't want to buy a cheap "throw away" type model but I also don't want to spend a ton of cash when our big stroller works just fine.

Anyone have a reasonably priced travel stroller they would like to recommend? Thanks :)
