@Foodnerd81: There's also the Joovy Groove ultralight I've been eyeing. Very similar to the uppababy g-luxe, but slightly cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/Joovy-Ultralight-Umbrella-Stroller-Blueberry/dp/B00EKNSVB8

I bought an umbrella stroller and we didn't use it at all until we went to WDW and then it was a giant blessing and pain all at the same time.

We got a Quinny Zapp because you can fold it to bring in onboard an airplane, but we ended up just gate checking it anyway. Then I had to deal with the terribly complicated fold and unfold for the entire trip.

My advice: if you get one, go simple on the umbrella stroller.

@Beehive: Wow-- that looks awesome! I guess I really have to think about how it's likely to be used-- if plane travel is in our future I think this one is the obvious winner... But if it's going to be in the car, one of the UB with the bigger sunshades could win out... Or if it will be used infrequently, First Years. Bah.

Check out the Mountain Buggy Nano - it's a new stroller on the market that we got for travel, and we loved it. It folds up very very compact (you can fit it in an overhead bin on a plane), it reclines, and DS really liked sitting in it on our last vacation.

We're debating the same thing! We think we need an umbrella for taking LO to daycare — the amount of stroller space available has been significantly curtailed, and our stroller keeps getting shoved into a crawlspace area!

We have an UB Cruz and a G-Luxe. I love having the G-Luxe for quick trips or if we're going to be somewhere that's more crowded. One of the best things about the G-Luxe that sets it apart from cheaper ones is the sun shade. Totally worth it over the cheap ones IMO, especially if you're going to be using it outdoors. We've taken it to outdoor festivals and it's nice that M can be completely shaded. I also love the recline feature and the basket underneath.

We have an UBV and just picked up a chicco C6 for $35 at a baby sale. Not too bad if you aren't 6 feet tall (i kick the wheels occasionally) but not bad for a second option stroller, too, especially a cheaper one to travel with. I think a McClaren is in our future. I really love our UBV, though, and we have been using it exclusively (E is 1 year)

i think it depends how much you'll use it, and since your lo is young, i would guess a fair amount!

since we live in a walking city with no car, we got a maclaren quest (should have got uppababy gluxe though). the recline has been really important to us because both kids nap a lot in the stroller when we're out an about all day.

we also have a first years stroller (the one that reclines) at my mom's place, and it's honestly pretty awesome... and cheap!

I love the UB G Lite - it doesn't recline but is so light and has a good sun shade.

we haven't used it yet since lo is only 2.5 weeks old, but we registered and were gifted both a ub cruz and a gluxe. we'll use the cruz most of the time but wanted the gluxe for traveling and also for days that we'll be going on the subway or bus but not walking around huge amounts, or if only one of us is going with lo (I'm imagining it'll be waaay easier to maneuver the cruz in public transportation if we're together). my brother and sil have both the ubv and the gluxe for their kids, so I was going off their advice!

We got a semi cheap one to just keep in the car for mall trips etc. The Bob is still the main one but it just takes up the whole trunk.

If you have a big, full service stroller, like an Uppababy Vista, do you also have an umbrella stroller or something else small for travel, errands, etc?

I live in the city and generally walk or take public transportation on off peak hours, so the UBV is great. Previously when we would drive somewhere I'd just take the snap and go base and use it with the infant car seat, but as C is getting bigger (8.5 months) she's not happy in the car seat for longer periods of time so we don't use the snap and go.

I'm thinking an umbrella stroller is in our future, but I'm torn on whether to get something a little nicer/sturdier (UB G-luxe or similar) or just go cheap, since our UBV will remain the primary stroller. I'm curious what others have found best, and when you primarily use the umbrella vs big stroller.

I'm not opposed to paying for a more expensive one (within reason) since we use the stroller so much, but I don't want to if a cheap one would be just fine, you know? We baby wear a fair amount but would still want a stroller for travel (for example, my overweight dad wants to walk her around the neighborhood when I visit them, and he would not be able to wear her in the carrier).
