We sit together and I rub her back. Or if she'll let me I'll pick her up and hold her. There's not much you can do other than try to comfort them and wait for it to run its course.

We sit in the rocking chair and I cuddle her and rock her and let her cry until it's out of her system.

I sit her down on a chair, get to her level, and then use my lowest but firm voice and tell her to please calm down, that i know she's upset for x reason, but that she has to calm down I give her a hug and tell her that it's okay to be upset but that she has to calm down (you can see the pattern of me repeating things. haha). I'll then ask her if she wants to join me back in the dining room or wherever we were but that if she starts crying again that i was going to bring her back to this chair until she calms down again.

So far it's worked, and she's been able to calm down after 5 minutes. DH would rather ignore her, but i don't feel like it's the best method for our LO and only escalates her crying.

It depends, sometimes a distraction works, other times it is better to ignore and go on as LO isn't having a moment until he's ready to come to us. I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one who deals with this. ;)

DD was in a terrible mood tonight and we had several fits of uncontrollable crying. I'm kind of at a loss for what to do when she gets like this. I've tried having her sit in her chair until she calms down, which has worked a couple times. I try holding her, consoling her, talking to her in calm tones, trying to divert her attention to something else. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's not really a tantrum, but just a total melt down over diaper changing, dinner, and bath time. Anyone else experience this? What do you do to help calm your toddler down?
