@MamaCate: I gave her advil this morning and before going to bed, so i hope it works. Thanks!

@betsyboop: thanks! i was so reluctant to do rectal bc DD was such a crankypants this afternoon! The first time we used an ear thermometer was when she was a week old and it read 38.5...we freaked out and went to emerg, only to see that her temp was only 36. That's when we found out you cant use it when they are under 6 months old.

Our thermometers instructions included adding a degree (f) to any underarm temp. Either way she clearly has a fever and it is high enough to warrant meds in my book.

Hope LO feels better soon!

i'd do rectal too. lo was sick a few days ago and we used an ear thermometer which gave us a reading of 101.7. then she broke out in a rash. we went to the doctor and she told us that lo's temp was probably higher and for future reference, rectal is the most accurate way of measuring temps. hope your lo feels better!

I only trust rectal readings because our temporal thermometer seems way off!

Both ear thermometers are broken. I used a digital oral thermometer on DD.

I took DD's temp under her arm and it read 38.1 (100.58)

I then took her temp orally and it reads 39.1 (102.38) but it was just the inside of her cheek. I took my temp under my tongue, and then the inside of my cheek and there was a .5 difference, with the tongue being warmer. I know that test sounds ridiculous...but if it is true, her temp would be 39.6 (103.28).

Which reading would you go with? Should i just do it rectally for accuracy? I have read that you usually need to add 1 degree F when doing underarm readings.
