She's 22 months and knows there are "school days" and "stay home days"..... We'll often ask her "do you know what tomorrow is?" and her response is always "Home Stay Day"

She's not a fan of waking up early and hustling out the door

@Truth Bombs: Haha yah my son used to do that, and my daughter does it now too! He didn't fully get the concept of days until we bought a big hanging calendar, and Bee talked to him every day about the calendar and what day it was... but once he could see the calendar, he figured it out pretty quickly!

@DesertDreams88: My daughter thinks everything that happened in the past happened "yesterday" or "last night" and everything in the future is happening "tomorrow". Passing of time is a tough concept for toddlers! I've given up trying to correct her because she looks at me like I'm from outer space.

I think my son got the concept of weekend once he began daycare at age 2, in that there were certain days that he didn't go, but he did not buy into the idea that he could stay in bed longer those days!

Not exactly an answer but pretty related..... I remember arguing with my mom at 5 years old that "tomorrow" and "yesterday" are not days, there are just 7 days: Sunday Monday Tuesday etc. There's no tomorrow" and "yesterday" in that list. We went around and around on that one!!

He knows that we only watch cartoons on saturday & sunday and that if we go to daycare it's not saturday or sunday. He really likes his cartoons!

My 2.5 year old can recite the days of the week in order. And we talk about how she doesn't go to school on Sat or Sun but I'm not sure she really gets it. She often tries to tell me "no mama! School is open today! You take me to school!". My kid loves her friends and teachers...... more than she loves me apparently!

Yes at age 3.5 she just got it. Recently (closer to age 4) she finally got the pattern. 5 school days and then 2 weekend days. But she was quick to remember that sometimes there are 3 weekend days!

6 yr old does

4 yr old? She knows that we have 2 "home" days every week but not sure if she really understand the days of the week yet.

Nope since he's 2, but I'm sure he notices the difference when he wakes up in bed with mommy and daddy on the weekends vs waking up at daycare during the weekdays.

D does, since he's 8.

M doesn't since he's only 16 months. But since I work weekdays, I can tell he's happy I'm home on the weekends.

For the longest time, my son would just ask us every morning if there was school that day or not. Then one day we got a calendar that had S M T W T F S on the top. Then he started asking if it was an S day or not! HAha, something only a kid could come up with.

Anyway he understands the days of the week and the concept of the weekend, but my daughter isn't there yet. She just asks if there's school that day, or not (just like her brother used to do).

Do your kids understand the days of the week, and the concept of the weekend?
