I've been gettin massages every two weeks. Normally I would not spend that much money on something that I think of as extra, but it helps with my pregnancy pains and I feel so much better. So, I guess the perk is that I'm okay and willing to spend some money on treating myself.

I love my hair! It's gotten really thick and long. I also get so much more joy out of eating and napping than I ever have before :)

This one is kinda silly, but I *finally* got a new office chair after nearly four years with a half-broken one -- I told my boss I was having back pain and bam, new chair!

I loved maternity pants, my pregnancy pillow, and not having to suck in my belly.

I still wear my mat pants and use my pregnancy pillow ;)

I'm not far enough along yet to have noticed anything major, but my sister-in-law had SEVERE celiac before pregnancy, to the point of having to go to the hospital for even minor contact with gluten. (Her husband had to brush his teeth before kissing her if he had a beer.) After she had my niece, it completely went away. It's been 2 and a half years, and she can eat all the gluten she wants.

I also have a super sensitive stomach, but during pregnancy I also noticed that I felt much better.

I don't care what people say, I DID eat like I was eating for two. Case in point: I was having homemade sundaes with like 5 scoops of ice cream, caramel sauce, crushed oreos, sprinkles, whipped cream and cherries. (direct quote from my pregnancy blog) I'm so glad I documented that detail. :)

@MamaBehr: LOL at hard like a keg! But I have totally made DH feel my "abs"-- they've never been this firm.

@char54: Yeah-- I definitely thought it would be worse, not better. And it was iffy in the beginning, but once I hit 2nd tri way better.

@Foodnerd81: Crazy about the IBS, huh?? I was SO worried when I got pregnant since my Dr told me I couldn't continue taking my medication. Luckily I've been more regular than I ever have !

@MamaBehr: lol!! Ditto on the hard belly!! I actually feel fit, ha! I'm getting a snoogle pillow this weekend and I CAN'T WAIT

It was the only time in my life my stomach was hard hahaha, sure hard like a keg and not hard like a six pack, but hard nonetheless hahahaha.

I also loved (and will love soon, about 7 weeks) my pregnancy pillow. Best. Pillow. Ever! Couldn't justify using it after the belly was gone though haha

Pregnancy jeans and not having to suck my stomach in are awesome. My middle is the worst spot on my body, that I'm most self conscious about, so it's awesome that now it's SUPPOSED to be big.

And like @char54: my IBS symptoms are better and I'm really regular, without having to take fiber supplements or anything, which I've been taking for years.

Not having to constantly watch what I eat has been so nice!

Also - my hair and skin have been great through pregnancy. I guess the hormones dried my skin out a little bit--which means no need to wash my hair every day. And fewer breakouts!

1) I actually kinda like my body pregnant. I haven't gained visible weight in many places other than my big ol' tummy (knock on wood, I still have a few weeks left, and could easily balloon), and have avoided stretch marks, so far.

2) I love food, food is good.

3) My students are way more gentle/well behaved around me.

I was always pretty sure that I would love being pregnant but some of the reasons why I do enjoy it so much surprised me.

1. My IBS that I have struggled with for YEARS (needed 6 pills a day pre-pregnancy!) has settled down to the point where I don't need any medication anymore.

2. Maternity jeans. Enough said.

3. Not having to suck in my belly for photos!

4. Having something to small talk about with people. I find I am usually so awkward in these situations but people are so curious about the baby and my pregnancy that I can chat up a storm much more naturally now.

Did you find any unexpected perks of being pregnant?
