My 20-week ultrasound was like yours - I cried after it was over. At my next OB appointment I complained to my OB and she kindly and gently told me that some techs are all about business and aren't so into engaging with their patients. Your OB will be able to tell you the gender. In my file there is a section that said something like, "Expected gender" that the tech is supposed to fill in based on what she saw.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience - it really takes away from the excitement and joy (for a split second).

That sounds AWFUL. Now I'm a little concerned about my upcoming appt for u/s this week--most of my care has sucked so far, so I don't expect any better for the u/s.
Sorry the tech was so rotten!

Oh wow! That is so sad... I loved my ultrasound! We were in there forever because my daughter didn't want to reveal herself to us but eventually we got it and she was sure we got to see basically every single aspect of our little girl and got some awesome 3D face shots. I can't believe how rude some people are :( But that was awesome of your husband! Yay for little girls, congratulations :D

Our anatomy scan with our first baby was exactly like yours and we ended up getting a 3D/4D as well, so I was actually going to suggest that to you! Glad you got some closure... Girls are awesome! Congrats!!

Thanks to all of you wonderful ladies with supportive words of encouragement. My husband was an absolute darling and we ended up booking a 3D/4D ultrasound and we're having.....A GIRL!!!!

The 3D ultrasound technician was absolutely amazing. The experience was well worth the out of pocket expense.

The original ultrasound did confirm what was needed to ensure health and the doctor did confirm all was healthy with the baby and they were happy with the results. The technician just wasnt helpful, friendly, or empathetic at all and it resulted in a bad experience

Anyway, thanks again for everything girls you really cheered me up!!

Aw, that's awful. I would of been so upset! I didn't have a warm, fuzzy ultrasound tech at that appointment but she did what she was supposed to do. She was kind enough to not give up until she found the gender. But she did make it clear that that was not her main priority. We know that. We want to know that the baby is healthy too, but the gender is still really important to a lot of us! It was memorable despite her abrasive bed side manner.

I'd book an appointment with someone else, you deserve a good experience.

Yeah, mine was kind of the same way. I had my NT scan at the hospital where everyone was amazing, the ultrasound tech was funny, and the doctor was so reassuring. But my 20 week ultrasound was at our medical center in the radiology department, and the tech kind of sucked. Also, they ended up diagnosing a couple of abnormalities from that ultrasound, so my doctor had me re-do the entire scan back at the hospital with the good doctors again. They didn't find anything wrong the 2nd time, so I did a whole bunch of worrying for nothing.

I would mention your disappointment to your doctor, and see if there's anything s/he can do. My doctor was really helpful about getting me a second scan right away, although there was definitely a medical need for it in my case...

I'm sorry about your bad experience. Sounds like that tech really needs to re-evaluate her job, since she is there to talk to people and show them what she's seeing.

Yea, even beyond not getting to know the gender, they should go over more health stuff with you. Our tech walked us through each part of the body. We told her there was a history of club foot and she double checked the feet multiple times. She said she felt like the clef palate looked normal but due to position she wanted to check again.

Oh, this is so disappointing to hear! Can you talk to your OB about going back and maybe seeing another tech about knowing your gender? So many people want to know these days, I would be surprised if they put up a fuss about it. Did you get pictures printed out of the u/s scan?

I'm hoping that since every other person I have run into at my OB office has been warm and friendly, our tech will be, as well. Even the girl at the front was excited for us when she was booking it. She told us, "Oh, that's the exciting one! You get to learn all sorts of fun stuff out about your baby!!"

she sounds like such a jerk! the past 3 high-risk appointments i've been to, they're checking with me if i know the sex. i was told by my week 16 what the sex was. plus, i was watching her take pictures of every single part of the babies' parts.

Your not being selfish, that's pretty awful of the ultrasound tech. If I were you I'd call the office and complain and get another appointment. I know sometimes they can't see the gender, but at my ob they'd try to get the baby to move by having me pee if they couldn't tell.

I had some issues with my ultrasound tech too, she was pretty grumpy during our scan and also wasn't excited about revieling the gender. She made us wait until the end because she said a lot of people get upset if they don't get what they wanted. I think that's awful!

WOW. I would complain about the tech to your OB! My OB contracts his tech. When we had our anatomy scan, the tech tried really hard to find our LO's gender for us. But LO had her legs crossed. The tech said she was pretty sure we were having a girl, but wasn't 100%. After the scan I met with my OB to go over stuff and he asked what I was having. When I told him LO had her legs crossed he said we'd try again at my next appt.
My next appt fell on a non-ultrasound tech day so he did the scan for me.
I can imagine how disappointed you are! Especially since you've been waiting so long to find out what you're having!

Yes, my person was soooooooooooo not warm or helpful. When she did tell us the gender. She didn't show us any parts, just said. Oh, it's a boy. It was such a disappointing appointment. I actually didn't trust her so I called my doctor and was like how accurate are these things esp. since our tech didn't even show us any parts to confirm it was a boy.

I'd would def complain too! The tech sounded worse than mine! I'm sorry, you had such a crappy experience when it should have been so special.

Did she say you had to come back to complete the scan or are you done? I think checking the heart chambers is an important part of the scan so I wonder why your tech didnt do that. I would ask about that.
I had to go twice for my anatomy scan because of the baby's position.

Did anyone elses tech seem uninterested, wanting to rush, and silent? I didnt get to see the babies heart chambersor any of the measurements they typically do. The tech also kept saying she was there to check health not gender and then said she couldnt determine it due to babies leg position. Im so disappointed that I dont seem to have any good clear pictures of our baby at this milestone appt in addition to gender. Im thrilled with a happy healthy baby but cant control my emotions. When I asked this tech if we could try and move baby or maybe I could take a peak another time she said "dont schedule through me, I dont have time just to look for gender"

I feel like I missed out and as rushed through :(

Anyone else feel this way? I feel so selfish, health should be all that matters but I cant seem to shake this sadness.
