@MamaBehr: I never even thought to do that. I wonder if my insurance company has one!

One more thing then I will be done. This was one interaction with one nurse. Every other time I have called with a question the other nurse has been super helpful and really took the time to talk to me and answered all my questions. I think that is why I was so surprised at her lack of answers.

@BabyBySurpise: I actually prefer calling my insurance nurses line. They always ask a million questions and make me feel like I'm being listened too. The nurse line at my doctor's office always makes me feel like I'm overreacting. So, I know where you are coming from. And your poor LO! I can't imagine how much that must hurt.

@BabyBySurpise: actually, vaccines aren't something we receive extensive education about in nursing school. Each vaccine carries its own unique possible reactions (as well as the common side effects). That being said, I'm glad your LO wasn't having a vaccine reaction.

@Ash: ??? I don't think the nurse was right or wrong since she couldn't tell me anything. She just said that it what was happening was "weird" and she never heard of anything beside redness and swelling. I was hoping she would have more information then weird. I'll admit I was panicking at the time. Not that nurses are suppose to calm crazy moms down but she really fanned the flames of my panic.

@BabyBySurpise: exactly and it baffles me why some people think vaccine reactions are not real or that parents are over reacting when they obviously can tell something's not right. Good job momma! Better safe than sorry!

I was concerned with the nurses lack of knowledge. Red and soreness sees pretty basic. Would hope nursing school would have at least given her some other symtoms. Yes it did turn out to be not the vaccines but it could have been a sign of a seizure was imitate (thanks to dr. Google)

Sounds like in this instance the nurse was correct that what your daughter was experiencing did not sound like a typical vaccine reaction, which is why she didn't jump to worst case scenario of a vaccine injury. I'm sorry your LO is hurting, I hope they get her fixed up quickly. It's so tough when they can't understand why it hurts to run around and play!!

Turns out she had a pinky toe injury. As the doctor was examining her legs she freaked out when they got close to her right toes. Took her sock off and her right pinky toe nail is all funky looking and the toe is red and swollenand bruised. She had X-rays done and we will find out tomorrow if it's broken. Know to find out how daycare missed her getting hurt like this 😔

@BabyBySurpise: I'm so sorry - that would be a scary situation to be in, and I would be so angry at the nurse for that reaction (or lack there of). I hope you get some good answers from the doctor.

@BabyBySurpise: omg that's terrible. I'm so sorry your going through this! This sounds very serious and should have been taken very seriously by the nurse and your lo's doctor. Vaccine reactions and injuries are not to be taken lightly and this should be reported by your dr by VAERS. I hope your LO is okay! Get her in ASAP!!!! That could be a seizure! What vaccines did she get? Prayers for you and your lo!!!!

I'm going to be Devil's advocate here and say that I don't really think it's the nurse's job to know about weird and odd reactions. Now if they brushed you off like you shouldn't be concerned, that's one thing. But you have an appointment with the doctor this afternoon.
With that said, I hope everything is ok.

Sometimes nurses are just weird. Back when DS was little and I was still BFing I had to call the nurse line for something and somehow it came up that I only nurse from one side at a time. She was totally baffled by that concept and wanted to know what I did with the milk in the other boob 😣.

I hate when I feel shrugged off by medical professionals -- I think sometimes as a parent we just need reassurance or to be shown a little care and concern because for us that's our number one priority in the moment. I hope you get some answers at the appt and that it turns out to be a fluke and nothing to serious. Keep us updated.

DD got her 18 month shots yesterday. About noon I got a call from daycare that she was acts very weird after they brought her in from outside. She was being very fussy and randomly crying out like she was in pain. She also refused lunch and a nap. The part that scares me the most is that she is stiffing her legs then I guess a she shiver (like when one goes down your back) then she relaxes. This all happened after outside play, breakfast and the rest of the morning was completely. Of course I call her doctor office to see if this is normal. I finally get a call back from the nurse who says she has never heard of that kind of reaction before she only knows about redness and soreness. Ummm what?!? Long story short she has an appointment at 4:15 but I feel like the nurse should have been a least a little bit more knowledgable. The Google told me more than that...just need to rant a little.
