That is exactly what Hubby and I decided, how funny!
We felt that it was much easier for girls to pull of unique names than boys. We felt that boys needed more traditional names.
We liked Jude Timothy for a boy, but we are having a girl! And man, do we ever have some unique names picked out for her!

I had a much easier time finding a name for a boy than for a girl. My top choice girl name was something that friends started to make fun of before we even knew the sex, so I kind of nixed it because I couldn't imagine someone close making fun of my baby. I was relieved to learn that our LO was a boy and his name was perfect, lol.

We're not too caught up in finding a "unique" name for either gender, but the name we like for a girl is not in the top 100 (I think when I looked earlier it was around 250). The names we like for boys are definitely more common, so we're sort of in the same boat as you!

yes that's exactly how i felt! i wanted a more traditional name for a boy (hence charlie) and a more unique but not too weird name for a girl (hence olive).

We didn't pick names by popularity, we just picked family names that we like. My baby girl's name is 243 on the list, but if we were going to have a boy we would have used #9. I feel like you should just use what you like, don't worry about anything else.

DH and I are the same - I don't really want a top 10 name, but when we started making a list of names we like, two of our boy names fall up there (Alexander and William). None of our girl names are that popular!

Looking at Mrs. Bee's post on top baby names made me realize that I have been much more concerned about having less common names for a daughter than a son. Our daughter's name is not common but not unusual, and that's what we were going for- basically, a name you've heard of, but have never met anyone who actually has it.

Now that we're getting ready to think of names for the new baby, I'm looking for the same thing for a girl, but when I think of boy names, I seem to like more traditional ones, which are more popular- and I'm ok with that! Anyone else seem to have different naming standards for boys and girls?
