@travellovers: Congratulations! I travelled at 6 months pregnant and it was a great time to do it. We went from Australia to NYC. The place ride was fine, just have to watch yourself. You will need to go a bit slower than normal.

@travellovers: First welcome to HB! I've flown at 6 months and was fine. I also had compression stockings and got up regularly. My doc also prescribed heparin injections but that was it.

@travellovers: Congrats!! Definitely don't worry about the wine and soft cheese. MOST women have those before they know they're pregnant. :) Most OBs recommend not traveling internationally after 24 weeks (~6 months), although it's fine to travel domestically up until much later (maybe 33 weeks?). How pregnant will you be for the 18 hour plane ride?

@travellovers: Congratulations! I can imagine your surprise but you are absolutely fine! It's common for women to not find out for a while after their missed period. Just start taking prenatals, make an appointment, drink more water and you are good!

@travellovers: Congrats! And your baby will be fine - I split a bottle of champagne with my husband 2 days before I found out, oops.

Also, I traveled internationally at 8 months pregnant, and it was fine. Just check with your doctor. Mine had me buy compression socks and get up every hour and walk about the airplane. At 6 months pregnant I felt pretty good and would have definitely have traveled. Congrats again!

I have another question - we have a 2-week international trip booked for when I'd be ~6 mos preg. Has anyone traveled that far along? We'd be doing a decent amount of walking, and a little hiking, plus 18-hour plane rides each way - yikes.

@travellovers: It sounds as if you had a normal period rather than implantation bleeding. I've never had implantation bleeding, but I think it's just a bit of spotting rather than a full blown bleed.

Congrats! Take a deep breath... You will be okay! Drinking/eating whatever this early can't harm the baby! You will have a more clear picture once you go to your appt w/ your OB. You can never be ready enough for a baby, it's an exciting and nerve wrecking ride for sure! You will find all the resources/support on this board for sure!

@travellovers: I'm sure you're scared, but congrats! 4-5 days sounds like a normal period (and a first day of last period of 3/19 would put you at 6 weeks--you and I would be due the same day, 12/24 ;) ) I won't even see my doctor for a couple of weeks! We have a due date thread here if you want to come chat with us (when you're ready). http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/december-2015-moms

Try not to worry about what you've had to eat or drink. The baby is just now starting to share nutrients with you (I think, maybe not even yet, but not earlier!)

Thanks so much ladies!! This is so helpful and so sweet <3

The first day of my last period was 3/19 I *think* but now I'm a little panicked that that was implantation bleeding?? It lasted 4-5 days which is normal for me, so how would I know if that was a regular period?

I will def book an appt and start taking prenatals.

I know the feeling! You'll be fine though, Seriously! My husband was unemployed when we found out and we made it through. You have lots of time to prepare and plan. My sister is pregnant (unplanned) and she didn't find out until 10 weeks so don't feel bad about not realizing! Hopefully you remain symptom free.

First of all, congrats!! Second of all, you are NOT a terrible mama!!

I could've written this word for word! Had an unplanned pregnancy shortly after we got married, took 3 pregnancy tests to confirm (all positives), and managed to squeeze in an obgyn appointment that same week. I was 6 weeks pregnant when I found out. It was crazy, and we were in shock! None of our friends were even thinking about kids either at the time, but in some ways I've found having friends that didn't have kids to be a blessing in disguise. My kids are 2 and 4 now and I'm so glad I had them when I did.

I would start by booking an obgyn appointment, and start taking prenatals. You can always wall me too.

I think the first thing to do is give your OBGYN a call. You likely won't have an appointment until you're about 8-10 weeks. Do you know the first day of your last period?

I would agree to head out and get some prenatal vitamins and start taking those. And I wouldn't worry about the drinking or soft cheeses.

Congratulations! I know this is a little freaky, especially if you weren't going to actively TTC for another year or two, but take care of yourself, and I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months!

How late are you? If you are pretty early along the drinking shouldn't really have an effect. Europeans eat soft cheese all the time, and the chances of listeria from that are so minimal. It is pretty common to get sick / flu, while pregnant too, so I wouldn't really worry. Don't feel like a horrible mama. Your baby will be fine!!! Just start taking prenatals and doing the right things now that you know you are pregnant.

I hear you on waiting one to two more years. If we would have had an unplanned pregnancy a few years ago, we would have freaked! I don't have any advice there, but I think it'll turn into an exciting time once you get more used to the idea :) Hugs to you!! This is definitely an unexpected curveball for sure, but you will be fine :)

Firstly, Congrats!

Secondly, don't freak out about the drinking/cheese/whatnot. You and baby are fine. Just don't continue doing it!

You're not a terrible mama at all. How late is your period? I would give your ob a call and see when they want to see you in.

My hubby and I have been married for 2.5 years, and we were planning on waiting for at least one or two more years before we started TTC. We have several international trips booked this year, and none of our friends have kids yet.

Well, after noticing how late my period was yesterday, I took a test and found out I'm preg. We're both freaking out right now. I don't know much at all about what to expect, what we should be doing, whether this baby has a chance (I've had at least 1 night in the last few weeks where we've been out drinking, I've had the flu, and eaten soft cheese). I don't even know how far along I am yet. I haven't had any symptoms, so I was shocked to get a positive test. (4 positive tests, actually.... hahah)

Just looking for support, advice, whatever you can offer! I'd especially appreciate advice from those who have had unplanned pregnancies, and reassurance that I'm not a terrible mama for not knowing about this sooner and not doing more to prepare.
