But you don't have to save for college, dogs don't need their own space/room (we can argue about whether kids do but most eventually at least need some degree of their own space), you don't have to worry about the long term effects of things like how long they cry, you don't have to deal with the dog mommy wars, it doesn't last as long as the infancy/toddlerhood period with kids, I could go on and on. Although, I will concede that part of it is that I would care much less about the outcome with a dog.
