I agree with @sandy: !!! I say for now put her crib in the new room. Give her awhile to get used to the new room and then give the toddler bed another shot!

I'm so sorry, mama. This sounds MISERABLE. I was thinking about transitioning my Big E out of his crib (for no real reason other than it being the next "project" haha) and this thread has convinced me to wait!

@HLK208: poor mama and poor E...I hate it when transitions are tough! Does your crib transition to a toddler bed? We removed C's crib rail and put the little toddler bed rail on so it was basically her crib with just a short little half rail. We did this around 19 months. And she only got out once during nap time and I saw her on the monitor and told her it was time for "night night" and that she needed to stay in her bed. I think bc it was basically still her crib in her room it was an easy transition. She's 2 years old now and we just moved her into another room with her big girl bed which is a full sized bed. I think the gradual transition helped.

If your crib doesn't convert to a toddler bed then maybe put her crib in her new room for awhile even if it doesn't match ;). When she's used to it being her new room then maybe switch it out to her big girl bed? I have no idea what I'm doing but those are just my thoughts

Good luck!!!

I'd go back to the old crib in the old room for awhile. Then, make a huge damn deal about the new bed and the new room. Have a party in there! With pizza! Sit on the bed. Also, a sticker chart. Worked for us :)

@HLK208: We also moved #1 to a new room so his new sister could have his old room. We actually kept the crib in his old room for a few months and then moved it to the new room (still as a crib). He wasn't confused at all - he loved having a new room which we painted blue and added airplanes since he loved them!

@Weagle: @Mamaof2: @CupQuakeWalk: @winniebee: @littlek: okay, so here is my next question - if I put her back in the crib, it's in her old bedroom which is now the baby's room, do I let her sleep in there but keep her new bedroom as is? She was fighting nap time today so I tried putting up a baby gate on her door and she just wandered in her room. So, I just put her in her old bedroom (the baby's room) in her crib and she went to sleep within 5 minutes. Am I just confusing her? I'd love to get the baby's room put together without E thinking it's her room.

If I move the crib into her current room, it won't match with her current bedroom set (which shouldn't bother me but I'm crazy haha).

We transitioned DS when he was that age, and it was horrific at first but, trust me, it got better. He would come out dozens of times and not fall asleep unless someone stayed in the room until he was fast asleep. What we did was be consistent, be strong, keep putting him back in, and eventually it got to the point where we could say "I'm coming back to check on you in 5 minutes" and he would stay in bed until we got back to check on him. Then we would stretch it out to longer and eventually he would just go to sleep.

We had him in the crib with the side taken off for about 3 months and then just last weekend we put him in the bottom bunk of his real bed, and it has been great. I think he's more comfortable (we got him a nice mattress), and he has his big-boy sheets and pillow, and so he doesn't get out of bed in the middle of the night anymore. Now the crib is free for LO#3!

I would go back to the crib. The new baby can sleep in a pack n play or rock n play until little E is ready for a big bed. Get some rest!!

We transitioned my older son to his toddler bed 2.5 months AFTER the baby was born, and it worked great. We made a huge deal out of him being a big kid, and my father-in-law bought him a fire truck bed and bedding, and we got him a new dresser, so he kind of got a room overhaul and he loved it. He was big on saying that he was a big boy now, so the baby could have the crib. He was about 32 months at the time.

I don't have any advice on how to make the bed work, but I think if I were you:
I'd out her back in her crib and just use a pack n play or rock n play for new baby for the first 3-6 weeks. Maybe 4-5 months will make a difference for E.

@HLK208: Do you need the crib right away?

I tried to put my DS in a bed when he was around 26 months and I was preg with my DD - it was awful and after 3 nights I had my DH put the crib back together!!

We waited until age 3 and it went much better!!

Honestly, I would go back to the crib. It's miserable for both of you. The baby can use a PnP for a while, if necessary, and by then she may want to be in a bed so that she's not the "baby."

@Lindsay05: that's funny! We have a video monitor but without a mic. That would make it easier but she's also not a great listener yet :-/

@photojane: that might work but I'm not sure if it will fit the toddler bed - maybe I can look for one that would fit. Definitely a possible solution though!

@HLK208: Do you have rails/bumpers on the bed? They sell extra long ones, which would sort of mimic her crib. It would definitely be harder for her to get out. Once she gets used to her bed, then maybe you could remove the rails.

ETA: Here's an example. It goes almost the entire length of the bed: http://www.amazon.com/Regalo-Hide-Away-Extra-White/dp/B000H1IYXW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396366373&sr=8-1&keywords=long+bed+rail

Oh no :( I have no advice but we will be transitioning sooner than later.

ETA: do you have a video monitor with a microphone? I know my SIL's LO tried climbing out of bed but she caught her doing it and told her to get back in bed. She dived back in and never attempted again.

It was a much smoother transition with DS but he was almost a year older.

When she gets up is she crying at the door? Or just wandering around the room? If she is just wandering around the room I'd let her be as long as the room is child proofed. With Lydz, we give her a stuffed animal and books in/near bed which she will look at until she falls asleep or if she wakes up early,

Sorry the transition isn't going smoothly for you :(

It's been a week since we transitioned E to her toddler bed. She's went from sleeping from 7:30pm-7am in her crib to sleeping 7:30-5am with 6-7 wake-ups and no naps. She's 22 months, didn't climb out of her crib yet but we'll need the crib for baby #3 this summer so I'd rather let her adjust now than later.

Each day with the toddler bed, it just gets worse instead of better. We stick to a routine every time she lays down, she's very tired, she doesn't have toys in her room. We've been consistent with putting her back in her crib after she gets out, giving her a kiss and leaving the room. She just continues to get out!

Should I just put her back in the crib?? I'm tired!!!! She's tired!!!
