@Applesandbananas: Mine is 27 months and unless she asks us to play with her, she has free reign to be on her own. She's a pretty high activity kid so I do worry about her climbing up on things so we need to get our act together and secure some furniture in her room, but otherwise we let her be. Only trouble spot is that she will not do any art activities anywhere other than our dining room table (which has now become her art space, basically), which involves standing on our chairs. We are working on redirecting her to her play table but haven't won that battle yet.

DS is almost 2.5. He tends to get a lot of unsupervised play inside and outside the house. He knows what his limits are inside the house so I can leave him alone to play and he will come to me if he needs help. Our yard is fenced off so when he's outside, he likes to roam around the yard and play with his toys. Lately though he's been wanting me to play with him more so I play with him a bit then leave him to do house chores.

Mine is 2.5. We allow her to play independently as much as she wants, but I either keep her in constant eye-sight or am checking on her every few minutes. Our house is mostly baby-proofed but I'm still mega paranoid about leaving her somewhere without supervision for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time.

ETA: I was playing unsupervised in my room at age 2 and had a febrile seizure, so that probably contributes to my paranoia.

DD is 18 months and I let her play unsupervised a bunch. But I know she doesn't normally get into things she isn't supposed to. She's a good kid and I let her play as long as she wants to. That doesn't usually last very long though, especially if I'm cooking....

We let him play unsupervised as long as he's in the house. I'll also run in to grab something or make him lunch if I can see him in the back yard from the kitchen.

ETA: LO will be 3 in September

DD is 3 and has tons of unsupervised play. Pretty much if she's in the house (usually her room or the family room) or our backyard I don't worry too much. I check in on her occasionally, especially if it's gotten mysteriously quiet. She's always been good at independent play and I've never felt the need to hover too much.

As long as he is happy and he is in a space where I can get to him quickly, I let him play unsupervised as long as he wants! I would be more hesitant in a new space, but in our house, he knows all the things he is not supposed to do, so I do trust him to be careful.

How old is your LO and how much/what kind of play do they do unsupervised?

LO is almost 2.5 and he doesn't do much of anything unsupervised. He will occasionally go into his room while we are in the living room, but it always makes me nervous when he's super quiet in there, so he's never unsupervised for more than a minute or two!

I remember riding my bike around the neighborhood with just my brother when I was 5 or 6! I felt like we played in the yard mostly unsupervised at that age too.

What about your LO? How does it compare to your childhood?
