@Minnie_Girl: yeah that is my response right now. What really got me was her looking at my registry and saying "oh that's crap take it off and reigster for ____ instead." I think there is a better way to put it than that!

The unwanted advice drives me crazy. Especially the doomsday, complaining type. I just want to get sassy and reply with something like..."Gee, that sure sounds awful! I bet whining about it to me is a really effective way of improving the situation!"

Instead I try to reply with some variation of "That's nice. We do/are going to do whatever works for us."

I go either way. Sometimes I lie and say, "good idea, I'll try that." and other times I say the truth, which is, "thank you for the advice, but I'm going to do this because it seems to work best for my LO."

Either way, it's annoying. Hope your friend starts laying off soon!

@mrbee: I have cut back on the amount of time I have talked to her on the phone as that is usually when it happens. In person I just tell her to shut up, easier for her to recognize it in person! I don't' want to lose time with my Goddaughter just because my hormones are causing me to be a little bit of a crab apple!

Usually people just want recognition for having gone through it before successfully so I'll just say "That's great advice, it just have worked really well for you". 90% of the time people back down after you acknowledge that they have experience in the matter.

Is it an option to just spend less time with her?

How do you deal with unwanted parenting advice? I have a dear friend who I love, (I'm Godmother to her daughter so we are super close) she has always been very opinionated but I have just learned to deal with it. However, when it comes to baby stuff I just seem to get really annoyed.

I have tried telling her to back off, I'm comforatble enough with her to be blunt, but it usually works for a week or two then the unwanted advice comes back! I don't want to snap at her because I know she is trying to help since she went thorugh this last year, but I just don't want to deal with it! I want to figure motherhood out on my own!
