@MrsRcCar, I'm rachiecakes' friend. My DS is 3 mo and we had his tongue and lip tie lasered at 2 mo. He still clicks when eating and doesn't always latch well but I believe part of that is because he nursed incorrectly for 2 months so he has to re-learn. It is still 10x better than before. Make sure you do the exercises and stretches to ensure the membrane doesn't reattach. Babies heal quickly which is why you need to make sure it doesn't reattach or you will need to have it clipped/lasered again.

This is the website of the dentist who performed my son's procedure. http://www.kiddsteeth.com/
He has some videos posted that show you how to do the stretches. Just a forewarning, your baby my scream, loud! It broke my heart but it needed to be done.

I got a call back from the ENT doctor who clipped DS's lip. She is more then happy to take care of his upper lip tie for me. She was pretty un-happy that the ENT here in town wouldn't help me. She also wished that we had seen it when we got his tongue clipped when he was younger, but it is what it is at this point. I am just happy that she is more then happy to help us. The only downside is now I have to drive two hours one way to get it taken care of. It is going to be a long two hours home after that I have a feeling.

I am hoping to have someone drive over with me so I can comfort DS on our long ride home. I haven't talked about the appointment with DH yet because I haven't seen him yet today (He works really early mornings, and well I don't.) If DH can't get off work for the new appointment then I will ask my dad to come along. My dad came with us when DS got his lip clipped and he was extremely helpful to have there to distract me. (I know that sounds bad, but I hate hearing LO cry in pain. I think everyone does.)

Thank you all for the support and I will keep everyone posted about his appointment and how it goes. His appointment is 2-5-13. Wish us luck,.

@MrsRcCar: yeah I"ve heard as they get older it becomes more of a "procedure" because there are more nerves and blood vessels, etc, so it might not be so easy to do in an outpatient setting. I hope they get you a good referral!

@MrsRcCar: I was curious about this myself http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/lip-tie-tongue-tie

I didn't have any pain myself, but my best friends son had a lip tie & tongue tie and for her it was excruciating. They had both clipped and are doing much better.

@Kemma: thanks for the support. Perhaps his age is why we are getting referred on. I never imagined it would be this much of an issue. I mean with his tongue tie I made the appointment and they clipped it at the appointment no problem. I am happy to hear that improves feedings for your lo.

@hilsy85: The ENT office is supposed to be finding me someone. They said they would give me a call tomorrow. I am just upset that I feel like I wasted my time going to the appointment today is all. I told them the problem when I made the appointment, it would have been nice to know then if they couldn't help us. I live in a pretty small town area so there are limited resources open to us.

Miss A had both a tongue and lip tie clipped at around eight weeks and it's definitely the lip tie that has made the biggest difference with our feeding.

I imagine that the older LO is when it's clipped the higher the likelihood of it needing more specialist attention, which might be why you've been referred on?

Hugs to you both and hope you get a swift and effective resolution!

As you know my Lo also has a lip tie and I have many of the same concerns that you do re: teeth spacing and speech. So sorry to hear you're getting the run around :( do you have a good pediatric oral surgeon that you could go to? I'm guessing they would consider it a surgical procedure if his is so severe--did they offer you good referrals at least? Hugs and I hope you guys are able to find a way to get this done and that things get better for N!

I have read about a lot of babies with lip ties and in most cases, it's definitely worth having it lasered/clipped. Especially when it will interfere with speech and tooth spacing, not to mention feeding.

I don't really have advice but wanted to offer support. Do what you think is best, remember you know best!

I took DS to the ENT doctor today. They confirmed that he has a severe lip tie. (I would have to be blind to miss it....) Anyway they informed me that they could not clip it in their office. The ENT that we dealt with didn't feel comfortable doing and then pasted the buck to the dentist.

Bee's I need support here. DS sucks so much air and I just want to help him. Not to mention I am extremely concerned about his speech as he grows up if it is not corrected soon. (DS is 3mo. ) I have also read about it causing issues with teeth spacing. Presently he sucks so much air when he eats. I would love to Breastfeed more, but the latch is awful. He currently gets pumped breastmilk from a bottle, hence the sucking air.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I already had DS's tongue clipped and we didn't catch the Lip tie then.
