The ped even put a little silver nitrate to help it heal or something (after it had fallen off on its own). It really weighed on me ... Next time, I was able to speak up, because I had the previous experience to guide me. I'm sorry you went through that, but now you have a point of reference for what makes you uncomfortable, and I'm sure you'll say something in the future. </p> <p>My daughters stump fell off at 4 days!! We never messed with it or anything. It was stinky (so stinky), but the midwives said it was totally normal. The redness happened to her too. We used coconut oil and avoided touching the area. It healed by 12 days. The dr took a look at his umbilical stump and commented on how after a while, it can begin to smell. He then proceeded to pull in the stump (pretty hard) and clean it with an alcohol wipe. He was just so rough that it made me cringe. I'm actually pretty mad at myself for not saying anything at the time and sticking up for my son. (I was told with my first to always leave the stump alone). I guess I just figured well, he's a dr, he should know. Well, a couple days later, his stump fell off- clearly before it was ready to. Now it's still red, and trying to re-scab over. It doesn't look infected (redness not spreading, no foul odor, no discharge) but it's also taking forever to heal. Ugh. Vent over. </p>
