My insurerr website had a list of Durable Medical Equipment suppliers and one of them was yummymummystore.com They had a number of pumps to pick from and I selected the Hygeia, filled in my insurance information and they billed the insurance directly and shipped me my pump. I put the order in and they filled it about a month prior to my due date. It was sooo painless!

I'm a 2012 mom but I did get a free pump through insurance. When I first called my insurance they gave me the number to the supply company. I called the suppy company and they originally said I could have any pump I wanted. I hung up and did a ton of research and I decided on a Medela PISA. When I called back to order the pump the said I could only get the Amada Purely Yours. I was a little bummed because I did all this research and then didn't get what I wanted. I ended up purchasing the PISA at 3 months before I went back to work. (I was E-pumping at the time) It was more compact, convenient and stronger.

It took a few calls to get a knowledgable insurance rep, but then I did get a list of in network suppliers and I got my PISA without additonal charges. I really wanted a Freestyle but they were all sold out of all my in network suppliers so I got the PISA.

Wasn't a big fan of the PISA, so bought a used Freestyle later from someone in my mommy group. I use the Freestyle every day but keep the PISA as a backup in case something happens.

My HMO insurance paid for a single manual pump, the Medela Harmony. They also covered the rental of a Symphony double electric hospital grade pump for a month because I had BFing "issues". DD was eating and gaining weight just fine. It was more for my benefit since I was in severe pain. It seemed like the qualification for the rental was pretty low. Like, if they thought you were serious about BFing and might actually pump you would get a rental. The LC said the rental was $300 a month if I didn't qualify or if I wanted to extend it.

I had Aetna and at about 4 months pregnant I checked out the website, called customer service to ask questions then i was told to call the medical suppliers for more information (they had a list on the site with suppliers and which brand/type of pumps they provide). I went through SunMed medical and got the Medela PISA for a $60 upgrade (double electric would have been free, Freestyle would have been $100 but both were on backorder) I called just to ask questions and the woman i spoke with said she could set me up then I got my pump in the mail like 4 days later.

I got a basic double medela electric at no additional cost. It took some work because my insurance only covered the cheapest pump from the medical supplier, so I had to call around to find one that had the medela as their lowest cost option.

I got my Medela personal freestyle through a medical supply company that was approved by my insurance. I had to jump through a couple of hoops to find a med supply that offered the breast pumps. They were on back order for the Medela, and I ended up getting it a couple months ago, which works well for me, I haven't had the baby yet.

@Foodnerd81: It sounds like I have pretty much the same coverage as you have - I could've gotten a basic double electric for free, the PISA and Freestyle were extra ( $50 for PISA, $100 for Freestyle).

I had no idea I would get a pump... and then an lc came in and asked if I had one and what insurance I had. She said I get one! So I filled out a form signed by pediatrician and called a number to request one and they brought it to my room. It was nice... the pisa.

my insurance company made it super easy--i called, they asked whether i was nursing or pumping, and the pump arrived in the mail a few days later.

my friend, on the other hand, found out that with her insurance, she was supposed to call during the last 2 months of pregnancy and have a doctor's prescription. unfortunately this meant that she missed getting her free pump. it's an awful policy.

I have Aetna insurance, and the process was very easy. I called to inquire about two months before my DD. I already knew most of the info from their website but called to confirm. I received a free pump from one of their medical suppliers. I went with an online one for convenience, and they had the double electric pump I wanted (hygeia). I received a call from the medical supplier in regards to my order and was told that everything was confirmed and insurance had covered it. My order came in two days later. Much easier than I ever expected.

@Foodnerd81: I think that's a great idea! I already had a manual pump that I loved (and used for travel), and I thought it would be nice to have an electric pump at home for the days I worked from home. I have only used the "home" pump a handful of times, though.

Yep worked for me and got the pump I wanted - Ameda Purely Yours (I preferred it because I like that it's a closed system). I could order up to 30 days before the due date so I ordered a few weeks in advance, and it showed up a few days before my daughter was born (2 weeks early). I have spent plenty on parts in order to have a second set so I can put one set in the car the night before while the other set is washed/dried.

Yes, I got 2 through insurance (my plan year changes in September). It was a pain in the rear at first because I had to find a supplier (which my insurance was NOT helpful in finding), but once I did find a retailer, I ordered it, they billed my insurance, and I got it in like 4 days. And obviously the second one was super easy because I already knew who to call. I also did not have to be within a certain time frame of delivering, I just needed a 'prescription' from my dr.

ETA: I got an Ameda Purely Yours w/lots of accessories

Yep! I had to buy it first and then be reimbursed but it was a super easy process. I had a max amount I could spend ($700) and I didn't come close! I could choose any pump from any retailer I just had to send in my receipt. I chose the medela pump in style from Target and was refunded my money within three weeks.

I had DD in January 2013. My insurance company provides an Ameda Purely Yours. It was covered 100% and came with a bunch of accessories, including a tote bag and bottles. I also get 150 milk storage bags for free every 9- days. I called before she was born and it arrived within 3 days. After DD was born, we switched our insurance around a bit (same plan, but moved from a self only to a family plan) - under the new plan I was able to get to same pump again, so I actually have two.

I got one through insurance. They only provided the Ameda Purely yours or a manual. I did have to pay some money to upgrade to the one with all the accessories (it came with the pump, bag, bottles, two sets of parts, cooler bag, ice packs, storage bags and adapters to be able to pump directly into the bags, etc). But that money also went towards my deductible and I would've met my deductible even without the pump, so it kinda was still "free."
