How horrible! I know this doesn't help now and wouldn't help if you're stranded with a broken stroller, but uppababy guarantees your stroller won't be broken if you use their travel bag. If for some reason it does break they'll replace the stroller.

You should check to see if your credit card has any damaged baggage insurance. Some cards have it as a benefit if you purchased the ticket with the card. Alternatively, check if the card has a damage benefit. My husband accidently smashed his iPhone days after he bought it and the card reimbursed him for repairing it! What a huge relief... It saved us $200!

I hate to be the bearer of potentially bad news but I flew about a month ago and researched flying with strollers and most airlines won't reimburse for strollers because they're considered a fragile item. I would still definitely check into it though. In the future buy a travel bag to protect it so the bag takes the beating and not the stroller.

This might sound totally random, but try tweeting them. You might be able to get someone to respond by Direct Message with a contact phone # to expedite things. I have had the BEST luck with contacting airlines on Twitter when there is a problem (which is like... every. single. time. I fly.). Usually they're super responsive.

@MamaBehr: Thanks!
I agree, the big airlines have horrible customer service. The last few flights I've taken a new approach of making a really big deal out of everything so they can't brush me off. Being polite just doesn't cut it. I hate that it has to be that way, but if I gate check my stroller that means that I need it in the airport and cannot wait until it comes out with the rest of the luggage (one instance), and if I ask for water for my toddler I cannot wait an hour (!) to get it (yet another).

It is crazy to me how much they didn't care!!! I was standing there with two small children looking like I could cry and no one cared! Everyone kept pointing fingers at other people to help us.... ugh. Worst experience flying EVER! This is the FOURTH time that we made this exact trip and on tinier plane and with worse turbulence.
@babyboymom I hope that you are able to get reimbursed for your broken belly bar...

We just had our belly bar broken by Copa and it looks like it's on us (although still haven't received a final decision so maybe we'll luck out). I know most airlines have some disclosure about how they're not liable for damage to gate check items, but it's worth a try. We were told we had to file a claim within a week of the flight, so I would look into it again. They must have a phone number- check the website and worst case call reservations and ask to be transferred to customer service. Good luck!

Ugh I'm so sorry! That is really sad. My dad was a baggage handler for 40 years and always would tell me stories about how crappy other handlers treat people's luggage. I hope you get some sort of reimbursement! I was just looking at stroller bags this week!

So we made it to our destination, had a nice visit, and was on our way home. US Airways BROKE our stroller. I don't mean snapped the cup holder off, they TORE off our wheel. THEN! Didn't offer to help us! We were on a tiny plane and waiting on the tarmac in Philadelphia and my toddler daughter was so freaked out and my infant son was crying, but we couldn't take them inside because we now had a broken stroller and four carry ons to lug through the airport. No one offered to help! NO ONE! If I had been by myself I would have cried.

To make matters worse, I'm afraid I might have messed up the ability to make a claim because I wanted to get said daughter and son OUT of the airport and home. I contacted US Airways in an email, but they don't have a phone number, and I'm really worried they won't pay for a replacement wheel or apologize.

We will NEVER fly them again....
