I had one of these, as well. The OB I saw at my u/s appointment measured me and said the baby probably had moved and that's why they decided to do the ultrasound. That day, she was back to measuring normally again. Also, the OB I saw day of the procedure said the OB who scheduled the u/s was an overly cautious one...

I had one at 33 weeks and then a follow up at 37 weeks. I was induced due to lack of growth the same day as my 37 week ultrasound. I had a mature placenta already at my 33 week ultrasound though, so they had concerns that the baby wasn't getting enough nutrients which is why they did the follow up. My baby was born at 5 lbs 2 oz, totally healthy with no need for the NICU. I think they just like to do the growth scan at 32 weeks as a baseline in case there are possible complications later.

One of my doctors wanted me to go for a growth u/s 4 days before my scheduled induction because she was sure my belly was measuring ahead and the baby was going to be like, 12 lbs. I actually said no because I knew it wasn't the case. I did end up having to have a c-section but she was only 8 lbs 9 oz and it would have been the same if we did it 4 days sooner.

I also had a growth U/S at 34 weeks as I had gestational diabetes. I think they just want to check the little one out to make sure all looks ok. I honestly don't think it's anything to worry about!

I had one right around 35 weeks, mine had dopped at that point, and they weren't getting a good fundal measurement. They just wanted to see where he was for growth, and where he might be for an estimated delivery weight. It was awesome to be able to see him again!

@MamaMoose: that's kind of what I was thinking, that he can't be that concerned if he's willing to wait 2 weeks.

I asked about the fundal height, if I was measuring okay and he said yes, so I'm just a little weirded out/nervous that even though that looks fine, he still thinks a growth ultrasound is necessary.

He told me not to worry, that it was just another chance to see "my little prince" again (lol that's what my dr called him)

I also had a growth u/s at 32 wks, and my doctor told me it was completely normal and routine...helps give them an estimate of how big baby might be. Don't worry!!

Please please don't stress yourself over this! As he said it's just a precaution. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks because I actually was measuring a couple weeks small, and baby was totally fine! She was on the smaller side when she was born (6lbs 7ounces at full term) but she was completely healthy. If your doctor had even the slightest concern he would have ordered an ultrasound right away, not one for two weeks from now.

My doctor adds in an US to assess growth because she knows that most Moms want a chance to see baby again and it's an easy excuse for the insurance companies. I really would try not to worry too much. I think most Drs want to take another peak, just for everyone's piece of mind and that it doesn't mean they even suspect there would be a problem.

I had my 32 week appt today and my doctor ordered an ultrasound in two weeks to assess growth. My fundal height measurement was on target, he said, but given the fact that blood pressure has been an issue, he thinks it'd be a good precaution to do an extra ultrasound just to make sure he's growing well.

I've had high blood pressure since 18 weeks and it's been very well controlled with a small dose of blood pressure meds and he said he's very happy with the way my blood pressure looks and reiterated that it's just a precaution and he expects everything will show he's growing normally.

I'm still flippin out.

I didn't think to ask at the appt stuff like what happens if he isn't growing appropriately? Will they induce labor and get him out? What then? How long would he be in NICU?

I'm scared, even though he said its just a precaution and that he doesn't suspect anything is amiss.
