I become eligible for citizenship in 6 weeks. Financially it is something we would really struggle to swing right now, but are considering it anyway.

My husband travels a lot internationally for work and Although he is eligible to apply for citizenship now he isn't interested. He gets more perks with the passport he currently has so it would be easy for us to leave if things ever got too crazy. Lol

My dad never naturalized and travels for business... Will Trump mess with China?!

DH is not a citizen, and not interested in applying for citizenship at the moment even though he's eligible. He is not from a Trump-targeted country....at least not yet, heh. We are going on an international trip later this year, so hopefully nothing crazy happens in the meantime (wishful thinking).

I have to walk past my local USCIS office on my way to work every day, and I have noticed an increased number of people going in and out of the building over the past several months.

Ugh I was afraid of this. I mentioned it to DH "lightheartedly" back then when the campaign was in its early days... I literally said that we better get him his citizenship now because this thug could make our lives a living nightmare. DH has been eligible for almost 2 years but we've been doing other things with our money...you know IVF and buying a house. (Gulp, soon daycare!) We have some certified translations to get done and they always cost a bundle. Anyway, yes, this is/will be affecting us just due to backlog now, not because of his nationality.

And they were overwhelmed BEFORE this! They have been behind on processing times for the past couple years because they desperately need more staff but the hiring freeze will prevent that from happening. It's ridiculous.

@madisonbee: Yes, my husband could have applied for citizenship five years ago. Now he wishes he'd done it a long time ago. It seemed too expensive at the time (to a couple of poor graduate students), but it's actually a lot more expensive now.

I'm helping a relative renew a green card now. I was told the process would take a year. I was hoping they would just apply for citizenship, but they weren't interested. Now I'm wishing they had changed their mind, or better yet handled their citizenship years ago. Scary times.

I was eligible to apply for citizenship last February and held off on it because the fees were expensive. So I finally bit the bullet and applied in December. I've gone through the biometrics process and as of Jan 1st, in line for my interview. Where I'm at, the USCIS lady said that it takes about 2 months to get notice of an interview.

I'm not from any of the countries with the ban nor is my country likely to be targeted by Trump, but he hasn't been in office long and look at all what's happened. You never know, so I'm just being cautious.

P.S. I should've done it when I was eligible so I could've voted against him! :meh:

Today my husband met with his immigration lawyer. The lawyer said it's been his busiest week EVER. Every permanent resident who currently qualifies to apply for citizenship is rushing to do it now due to all the scary uncertainty Trump is causing.

The processing time for a naturalization application was already 9-12 months for our service center. The time for simply renewing a permanent resident card was 6 months. But now that there are so many applications, the backlog is going to REALLY be totally outrageous. And you know they won't hire more people to review applications, because of the federal workforce hiring freeze! It's craziness.

My husband is not from a country likely to be targeted by Trump, but he wants to get his citizenship ASAP because you just never know what Trump might do.

Is anyone else affected by this?
