Generally, 1/2 retail. Mostly, thats for gear, furniture, etc. We bought our jumperoo (the Rainforest one) for $30 and I thought that was a steal.

Clothes and shoes, not more than a couple of bucks, depending. Cheapy stuff like Carters/Target/WalMart, I'm not going to be willing to pay much more than $1 per item/$5 per outfit/$3-5 for shoes. Gymboree, Gap and more high end brands, probably $15-20 per outfit.

@regberadaisy: I agree with @Foodnerd81: Its a hard call. Unless I knew you, I would assuming you probably had used it more then 5 times. However, if it is a $120 swing, maybe list it for $75 but be prepared that it may not sell for more then $60.

@Foodnerd81: thanks!! I'm glad I'm not out in left field on that one. We're having a yard sale soon and I'm going to put it out. I tried local FB resale groups and craigslist once before. If someone makes a reasonable offer at the yard sale at this point we'll take it bc it's taking up soooo much room!

My general rule of thumb is about half a retail, though it varies. I wouldn't bother buying some things on Craigslist anyway, like clothes or whatnot (though that is largely because I am already getting hand me downs). But for gear I think half is about right. I only bought a Snap and Go so far and paid just under half.

For nice furniture or something, I could see paying a little more than half of retail for a quality item.

@regberadaisy: That's a tough case, because from the person looking at it online, it's really hard to know if you are telling the truth, that it was used 5 times, or if you are someone who SAYS that, then you find out it's in terrible shape, you know? I'd be more inclined to pay a little extra in that case if you were selling here, where I "know" you more, than Craigslist.

It's impossible to say, I think it totally depends how badly I want something/how badly I want to sell something and how it compares to online. I bought a used jumperoo for $60 off our craigslist because it was the only one to have come up in 4 months and I didn't want to spend $100 on a new one.

I don't know. It's hard to say. It depends on the item and condition mainly for me. Not all "used" items are equal. Like I have a swing that is "used" but M literally used it like 5 times!! It's a $120+ swing. Do I sell that for $50 even if it's practically brand new??

@Anagram: This is usually my thought too, around 35-45% of retail price.

It also kinda bothers me when someone try to sell a very basic/cheap walmart bouncer for $30 just because other bouncers sell for that. Well I look up the brand and the quality so that price doesn't make sense because it was only $40 new!

For used clothes, I wouldn't pay much at all---maybe a 1/3 of retail?

And my personal rule for buying used baby stuff in good condition--I won't pay more than half off what I can find online (like on Amazon, say). But obviously, I prefer it for even less.

A recent example: I was looking for a Ktan on Craigslist. There was a guy that had one listed for $35...it's on Amazon right now with free shipping for $50. So I offered $25, he said he was not willing to go less than $30. In my mind, I'm thinking...why wouldn't I just pay $20 more to get a brand new one that I can return if I don't like it? So I told him I wasn't interested.

A week later, I got a Ktan just like it from a different person on Craiglist for $20. Then I felt like it was a "good deal".
