If it's just a crappy one, you could check craigslist. My local CL has a ton of new medela double electric pumps that people got from their insurance and sold. You may be able to find one completely unused and unopened. I read all about the open/closed systems and then read about the risks of infectious disease that can be passed through breastmilk and just found that it was very, very unlikely.</p> <p>In any case, I knew the girl well enough to trust her when she said she didn't have HUV or any of the Hep strains, so I was fine with it. If it's an open system, there is no way to truly sanitize it.
