There's not a lot you can do to mess up a cotton prefold's absorbency. I bought a few pockets used, mostly for sitters, and they've also been totally fine. I've used them for 15 months with no problems and they're still just as good as the ones I bought brand new. I'm confident they'll all last through to at least a second child (longer for the prefolds), considering what condition they're in now. I do a strip when I first get used diapers, but I don't worry about sunning. I also don't sun mine to remove stains, though. I never even told DH about looking for used ones. He was/is not totally on board about CD'ing anyway in our washing machine. And YES! I went to one of the sales at our local store and all the used CDs were just thrown all around, looked dingy and I didn't even want to pick one up to look. And I found a box of Charlie Bananas once at Target, opened them to find someone else had returned a bunch of old (various) used and stained CDs in the box and was disgusted. But I got hell of a deal - ~40 small prefolds (they fit about 6wks-4mo on DD1), ~50 BG and FB pockets in one-size and med, all for $100 from a mom of triplets. My reason is because I don't know when I will get pregnant and so I don't want used diapers in a box that is stored away. Thinking of that kinda grosses me out. I know they are clean but I would want them stain-free before putting it in a box. Also, I feel bad buying used diapers when there are moms out there that could use them at this moment. As for my backup plan if I can't get pregnant (that I don't think about often), is that I can pass it off to a friend or resell the new cloth diapers. </p> <p>If I had a LOs, I could definitely see myself buying used to save money.
