I don't let my girls wear any used shoes, not even one another's, but I am admittedly very paranoid about such things. And my grandmother swears wearing hand-me-downs ruined her feet (although I think there is more of a story there...). I will probably make an exception for winter boots/rain boots because of how little they get worn. I think the general consensus in the medical field is that as long as they are not worn to the point of being ratty/worn out, it is okay to use used shoes.
