I put long sleeved white onesies under a lot of my son's short sleeve shirts. I like the layer look and it helps keep his onesies white longer.

I also live in a cold climate and recently found out how convenient sleeveless onesies are under a long sleeve top. I used to only use long sleeve onesies with a cardigan over for when it's cold indoors, but they sold out of her long sleeve onesies and I was forced to buy sleeveless ones. I actually prefer it! It layers so well with long sleeved tops and thick sweaters. LO's 17 months and now lives in a sleeveless onesie + long sleeve shirt + pants at home. Whenever the temp drops suddenly and it's cold at home, I can add a cardigan on top of the long sleeve shirt and it's not as bulky. I'm not sure if I'm ever restocking her long sleeved onesies after this!

I love to layer short sleeve tees over long sleeve onesies. Its cute & adds an extra layer of warmth. I started buying larger sized short sleeve tees so that it can be used in Winter & into Spring.. by then the tee should fit perfectly on it's own. You can do the same with short sleeve onesies. When she was younger she had on two layers: short & long onesie.. it worked fine.

If there is a really cute short sleeve onesie, I usually wear a long sleeve shirt (regular shirt not a onesie) under, then wear the onesie on the outside.

I should layer more! I can see needing layers under sleepers soon...
I wish I'd left some tags on, to exchange or gift some things, but I was very zealous about taking tags off and washing clothes as soon as I got them this summer-lesson learned!

If the LS shirts are big, I will put a ss tee underneath. I will also put smaller LS tees under SS tees for the layered look.

@Freckles: Ahh Ok. I have lots of cute short sleeve onesies but not many non-onesie things, like sweaters.

@Foodnerd81: No, it'll be a non-onesie shirt or sweater over the short-sleeve onesie. I wasn't sure if she was referring to only short sleeve onesies or short sleeve clothing in general.

I layer short-sleeved onesies under pajamas for extra warmth. I also sometimes use them under sweaters.

I was wondering the same thing! We have plenty of cute short sleeve onesies, but it's cold. Not to mention all the plain white onesies I thought we needed. Do people layer short sleeves under long sleeve tops when it's really cold?

I use them as layers! I put on a short sleeve onesie under a shirt or sweater for my LO. For any short sleeve t-shirts/sweaters, i'll layer it on top of a long sleeve onesie.

This might seem like a silly question...

But my son is almost 6 months old and fairly big for his age. People have given him tons of clothes as gifts and hand me downs. I'm so grateful for all them, and was looking forward to him growing into some of the bigger ones. Problem is, we live in a very cold climate and he has been living in long sleeve onesies and thick layers for several weeks now. Are all the short sleeve onesies going to go unused? Is there a way to use them in cold weather that I might be overlooking? He'll be way too big by the time the weather warms up again, and I want to get good use out of his clothes!
