@Mamaof2: Because a duvet cover is generally meant to hold a comforter, not a bedspread. In my experience, quilts are sized like bedspreads (they hang closer to the floor, and don't require a platform bed or bedskirt). It's entirely possible that you've got a shorter quilt though, or we may just be using different words to refer to the same items.

This only came to mind b/c I am currently making my children new duvet covers, and was looking at this link for approximate measurements when ordering fabric. You'll notice that there is a big difference in the size between a comforter (which I was equating to a duvet) and a bedspread (which I was equating to a quilt).

@MrsSRS: I have never used one before so maybe it wont but my DS sleeps like a crazy person and his quilt usually ends up on the floor every night

@PinkElephant: hmmm.. well that makes no sense - why would it be shorter?

Huh I've never heard of that. Our duvets don't have ties or clips and they just...don't get very bunched up?

One thing to keep in mind - any quilt I've had is usually long like a bedspread, while a duvet is shorter on all sides....so you may need to adjust the cover size you buy accordingly, or plan for a little bit of bunching :)

You tie the ties inside the duvet around the corner of the quilt. I've also heard people use and love comforter clips (they sell them on amazon). Or if you're proficient with a sewing machine you could run a seam up the side so that the duvet is pretty much the exact size of the quilt. That will also keep it from moving around.

I want to get a duvet cover for DSs quilt - cheaper than buying a new quilt - but how do you get it to stay without getting bunched up? It says it has interior ties but my quilt has nothing for it to tie on....
