@looch: I have similar criteria as you. Nice to gauge where other people stand!

@JerricaBenton: Thanks for explaining the limited data!

I think some of the 'limited data' is because there are herbs and essential oils that are not FDA approved, which isn't bad but they just can't say 'sure this is 100% safe' even though for many things we know they are. I've run in to that a lot with natural and organic products. I just do my own research on the safety of specific herbs/oils for pregnancy and baby use.

That's a good question, Andrea. I will be honest, the only things I really avoid when it comes to shampoo and body washes are artificial colors. I don't see the need to have Red Dye 40 in my body wash, but it lurks in some brands.

As for the data base, I am more stringent when it comes to sunscreens. I use American products (even though I live abroad) because there is more info readily available. I try to look for low hazard products for my son, but for me, I am okay with a product that is a 2 or 3.

I always check this database when buying products for DD (and sometimes use it for myself, too, especially while pregnant).

http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

For those of you who also use it, do you only use products that have a 0-1 score (lowest hazard)? Would you use a product that is 2-3?

I've also noticed that the "data availability score" is frequently "Limited". So a California Baby product may have a low hazard of 1, but this is based on "Limited" data.

Just wondering how you interpret these ratings if you use this website ....
