I read the whole article - the process of getting the donated uterus involves getting part of the donor's vagina sown into you in addition to the uterus. And when you are done using the uterus, you can choose to stop taking anti-rejection meds and it will all just wither away. That's all I needed to hear. I'm out. But best of luck to those girls who want to do it though.

Haven't read the article yet but would insurance even cover this? Aside from the experience of being pregnant it kind of seems like surrogacy would be a good option with less risks. (?)

Edit.. Ok I skimmed it and I guess a huge part of the purpose is the pregnancy experience. I don't get why the one woman's insurance pays for that, but I guess all policies are probably different re: IF. About surrogacy I can see why there are ethical concerns when someone is paying someone else.

@CakeLady: true. I didn't think about that aspect. I recently had a c section and watched a medical video about how they do it and it was quite intense. So I guess a uterus transplant would be quite the undertaking. I wonder what the criteria would be for it. Also donating a uterus would be quite major too. The article I read was about a daughter who used her mother's uterus because she had to get hers removed due to cancer I think.

Fascinating. Though, as someone who has had two uterine surgeries (myomectomy and c-section), neither on the scale of a transplant, this sounds like a very intense process with huge recovery time.

Wow that's fascinating. I have actually seen transplants done live (kidney though) so I can envision this how the described it. I wonder how far out it is.
