@anonysquire: I thought I had one with my first pregnancy and it was just super painful stretching going on in there. Even the OB thought it was and gave me antibiotics right away. It happened again this time and the only reason I knew it wasn't, was because I remembered my previous experience. I hope you get some answers and relief soon!

Update: went to midwives for a test and no Uti on the strips so they are sending it in to culture. So now I'm just a faker I guess? Ugh!!

When I was pregnant, I got both a UTI and bacterial vagnosis. After going through antibiotics, I drank tons of kefir until I delivered to prevent further infections.

@anonysquire: cranberry extract pills.. I found some at whole foods. The juice isn't enough to do anything to n existing uti. Also, if you're positive it's a uti you should ask them for a prescription right away. I've never had a test done.

I'm surprised they haven't gotten you on antibiotics more quickly! Make sure you get antibiotics even if the other meds make you more comfortable because they're just treating the symptoms. Feel better!

@anonysquire: UTI meds change your urine color. It's pretty shocking if you aren't expecting it. Keep the test strips handy so that you can check if you have any symptoms. You get the results in 2 minutes, can't beat that.

@anonysquire: I am 34 weeks and had a UTI a couple weeks ago. I was SO uncomfortable and my midwife called in an antibiotic specifically for a UTI before she had my culture results in. She said if we didn't treat it I could potentially start contracting. I would definitely call back and ask for an antibiotic!

Eek, if its been that long I'd try to get on antibiotics ASAP! I had to go to the ER once for a kidney infection that stemmed from a uti -- not fun at all.

ETA: just saw you're planning on getting meds. I hope it clears up fast and you're feeling better soon. UTIs suck, I feel your pain!

Yes, get on antibiotics as soon as possible. If not treated, it can become dangerous. My sister was just hospitalized (she's pregnant) for this reason--a UTI infection spreading to kidneys. UTIs are miserable and I hope you get relief very soon!

Most of the cranberry juice that we drink has a lot of sugar. You can find it without sugar, but it's so bitter!

@PointeShoesTutus: I saw those at the store. I'll have to pick some up omorrow!

Ok guys I got the uristat and like a hour later when I used the restroom everything was all haloweeny if you catch my drift. I'm sure it will take a couple doses to feel better. But for sure tomorrow I'm calling and demanding the antibiotics. Thanks everyone!!

AZO sells over the counter test strips that can test your urine for white blood cells and nitrates. It's very similar to the urine dip they use at the doctor's office. You can get them at any drug store.
I used them multiple times per month before I got diagnosed with interstisial cystitis because I felt like I had a UTI all the time.

If the strip comes back positive you could at least try to pressure your midwife for antibiotics. The last thing you need is a kidney infection.

@anonysquire: I'd go a little crazy on the midwives and blame it on pregnancy hormones. Ask exactly why they're not taking you seriously. Exactly how long do they expect you to go through this before they intend to really help.

@sunny: but do they have certain kinds for certain ailments?

@78h2o: I'll have to try those! And I'm actually a little peeved at the midwives. I mean I know they don't really like to throw out antibiotics but I am not making this up and everything is uncomfortable. Yesterday when I called they said tomorrow they will call you in a prescription so what pharmacy do you want it. And today they said I first need a urine test. Ugh!

What? Why can't they start you on antibiotics right away? Does your doctor have test strips they can use to confirm bacteria? 2 weeks is way too long to have symptoms - if it is a uti, it could be endangering your kidneys. Have you tried those numbing pills that turn your urine orange? I don't know if they are safe during pregnancy, but I'd check. It's in Uristat or a doctor can prescribe prescription strength. Hope you feel better soon!

You can get probiotics pills at any drugstore. Look in the supplements aisle near vitamins. You can also eat yogurt. I think all of them have them but some are specially marked.

I feel like my bladder is going to fall out of me. It's just so heavy and painful. ANyways enough of the TMI. I have been drinking 3 liters of water and 3 8 ounce cups of 100% cranberry juice for 2 weeks and no relief. My midwife mentioned probiotics but I have no idea what kind to get or where you get them or anything about that. Does anyone know about probiotics? And my midwife said I can come in Tuesday for a urine test so I they can send it out to the lab and 2 days later I can get an antibiotics. So basically I will be 100 before I get antibiotics. Help my bladder please!!!
