@Mrs. Stroller: yeah I definitely would not fly past 30 weeks if I could avoid it! I hate flying enough when I'm not really pregnant, so I can't imagine ever wanting to do it when I am!

I think it would be fine as long as you don't have a lot planned and can take several stops on the drive. I had to fly from DC to FL to get my driver's license when I was 34 weeks and it was pretty uncomfortable and exhausting, but fun once we got there.

@hilsy85: hehe, not that you need any more convincing, but....

when I was around 32 weeks with Wagon Jr., we skipped a wedding in Florida of two of our very good friends. (when we got engaged, the guy was Wagon Sr.'s roommate and the girl was my roommate!) We skipped it because I was uncomfortable and we didn't want to risk it. We've ALWAYS regretted it, and this time around we planned to visit them (in Florida) and the way things worked out, I'll be 32 weeks again...!! But this time we are going. (and leaving Wagon Jr. with Grandma at home!)

I took a road trip to Death Valley with my sister at 31 weeks and felt fine. It involved some light hikes and walking, and a lot of riding in the car. I really didn't start feeling like crap until this past week (39 weeks). And with 2 months still to go until my due date, I felt that I was pretty safe in being far from home. I think you'll do great on your trip and enjoy your babymoon!

We babymooned when I was 9 months pregnant on the beach, which is actually closer to our hospital then my house is. It was awesome. We took the jolly trolley to the aquarium, ate yummy food, and spent lots of time swimming. It was summer in Florida so that was perfect for us.

I'm 33 weeks right now and I would feel fine going on a 2-hour road trip :) Actually, our babymoon is in about a month and I'll be 37 weeks (also 2 hours from home). I say go for it!

At 33 weeks, I was still working, and my commute has been known to take 2 hours in really bad traffic. :)
(I wouldn't worry about it, especially if the experience in general will be relaxing!)

@yoursilverlining: Yay, that's good news!

@MamaMoose: Thanks! I'll definitely have to see what my doc's rules are, but she seems pretty laid back so I can't imagine she would be much more strict.

@purrpletulips: Very true! Just in case...

We actually took a mini vacation to NYC when I was around 33 weeks pregnant. We drove 5 hours there (with a break for lunch and stretching legs), walked around the city a bit, saw a play, had dinner, visited with friends, then drove home the next day. Weeks 30-34 were the best of my pregnancy – energy wise and for how I felt physically. Have fun!

With my first, I felt great up until 39 weeks. My doc didn't put any restrictions on travel (via car) until 36 weeks but that is more what he tells everyone because if you go into labor at 37 weeks or later they typically will let you deliver because you are considered full term. This pregnancy I have been having some issues and am dreading travel of any distance (including my 45min daily commute).

It never hurts to check out the hospitals closest to where you will be staying just in case.

A friend of mine who is a few months ahead of me said that after 30 weeks her Dr prefers her to be in a 2 hour radius of the hospital... so it seems like you should be fine since you are only going 2 hours away.

DH and I have been talking about taking a vacation before LO arrives. Due to other people's schedules at my job, the only time I could really take time off is in September, which would also probably start my leave from work. I would be about 33 weeks at that point, and we would probably want to go to upstate NY for 5 days or so. It's about a 2 hour drive away from where we live. For mamas who have their babies or who are around 33 weeks right now, how did you feel/how are you feeling? Do you think you'd be up for a vacation at 33 weeks? It wouldn't be anything strenuous--some walking around town and probably lots of eating and sitting and reading :) And do you think the doctor would have a problem with it? I'm seeing my OB this Friday, so I'll also ask her in person.
