@youboots: Escape rooms might be fun!

These food tours are a lot of fun - we've been on the Chelsea Market and the West Village ones:

@youboots: rains law room and whiskey library are tw places with great whiskey/drink selections. Also Mayfair (a restaurant).

It's definitely not original but you can come to brooklyn and get the classic manhattan skyline with the bridge!

I can't help you much with city specific things but some things that help us connect are playing games- cribbage and backgammon are favorites, cribbage is nice because we both learned at the same time so we are on an even playing field. We like listening to podcasts together and they give us a lot to talk about, This American Life, The Moth and Freakonomics are favorites; it can be nice to turn them on while getting ready for bed or getting ready for the day when we aren't in a chatty mood. Remembering to hold hands a lot helps, I swear some of my favorite memories are of just wandering strange cities hand in hand with my husband. There is even an app to help you get lost and explore if you want: http://www.brokencitylab.org/drift/ or you could try geocaching if you think you might enjoy it. Oh and there is a service called you and me concierge that helps set up interesting dates, the prices are pretty good and often you can find a promotion towards your first one.

Have a great time!

@youboots: 8 bit is a blast. Just avoid weekend nights because it gets too crazy.

Yelp may be your friend on the whiskey thing but maybe one of the speakeasy spots would be fun? Please Don't Tell, Angel's share, etc. Employees Only and Death and co are two other highly rated cocktail places downtown.

@looch: good idea, we read the same books when we were LD, now we send each other articles to discuss.

@youboots: NYC has something going on in different parts of the city on any given day. If you're up for it play explorer and walk to until your feet hurts. Then take a taxi back to your next destination. Food tours are alot of fun and a reasonably priced way to have a multi-colored meal.

@gingerbebe: tandem massages, that's so cool your husband was up for that.

@theswisswifestyle great suggestion! I am bringing my medium format film camera, 35mm film camera and pro digital body with my favorite lens. As long as I'm feeling ok I plan on shooting a bunch of film, I have slowly been putting together a city themed show and already have great shots from SFO and Vegas.

@hotchildinthecity any recommendations for where I can shoot cityscapes that may not be obvious to me? Or other New Yorkers? I am staying in Nolita

@vegmama I will miss you.

One thing we did was to download the same book to our reading devices. We'd read it and discuss it over meals. You can also download a movie onto your laptop, if you're bringing one.

But, you won't be in your room much, if you're feeling okay...there are so many things to see in NYC and the area surrounding it.

There's so much to do in new york that i wouldnt worry about it! You could also "go out" at night and not drink. There are lots of bars that have other things to do like 8 bit arcade or ace bar (games) and live bands.

You can spend a whole day in Central Park, there's so much to see, and you can always just plop down and take a rest when you feel the need. Also, I recommend going to the top of the Empire State Building at night! The view is amazing at night, and the last time we went there was NO line. Also, if you can bring a "real" camera (not just a phone) and a mini (easy to carry) tripod, then you can get tons of pics with each other. DH and I get competitive to see who can set up the best shot, and that's a great bonding experience!

Have fun!

We went on a baby moon to Jamaica but we are kind of home bodies so we don't stay out late as is, but especially not with me being pregnant. We honestly went out and ate, stayed in our room playing card games or reading, and watching TV. Often we would just cuddle and talk. It was nice to just be. But since you're in NYC you should of course sight see as much as you can! And eat lots of carbs :)

Download "Words with Friends" on your phones and play Scrabble against each other on your phone - way more portable. DH and I used to play against each other winding down at night on vacation and its super fun to get mad at each other for getting points on weird words.

Go to one of the fancy toy stores like PPs have mentioned and pick out a cute toy or stuffed animal together as a memento of the trip. A nice Gund stuffed animal is a quality toy that could last your kiddo their whole life!

There are plenty of DELICIOUS things to eat in NYC that don't require pricey dinner reservations or drinks. I would enjoy Magnolia Cupcakes, the Doughnut Plant, brunch at Buvette, a meal or snacks at Balthazar, black and white cookies, bagels, a comedy show at Caroline's or any number of fun venues, share a hot pastrami at Katz's, and find a great hole in the wall ramen joint. Instead of expensive cocktails, indulge is expensive fresh pressed juices every day and get some good nutrition in. Bring a blanket and a book and pack a picnic to take to Central Park.

Take a daily nap to break up the day. Do something in the morning, have lunch, and then come back to your place to take a nice snuggle nap. Then wake up, go back out and have an afternoon tea or snack, and then do something else before dinner. Take a walk and get dessert, and then head back home or do something else during the evening.

One thing we did on our babymoon that has nothing to do with NYC but its TOTALLY worth it is a legit pre-natal massage. DH and I had tandem massages during our babymoon and I had mine with a pre-natal massage specialist while he had a sports massage and we were both SO happy afterwards. I'm sure there are no shortage of spas in NYC you can choose from!

You could also watch some movies or TV shows based in New York, either before or while you're there, just to whet your appetite.

You remember our babymoon? The hotel room from hell? Even then, it was a blast. We did go out a lot (which I know you will), and when we were in the room, we watched movies on the laptop, and played cards.

Sounds so fun! I would bring your laptop/ipad so you can watch movies and relax in the evenings. Clausthaler amber was my favorite non-alcoholic beer when I was pregnant!

DH and I like this game called Carcassonne. If you just take the pieces without the box it would be pretty small and easy to pack.

Also this might be a little too random, but we're big Dr John Gottman fans. We have his book, Making Marriages Work and there are little exercises in the book you guys could do together. For example there is a "love-map 20 question game" and an "I appreciate…" exercise (listing things that one appreciates about the partner). Sounds cheesy but they really do help you to connect and bond.

You can enjoy good food for cheap if you know where to go. Mamouns falafel, famous rays pizza, h & h bagels, a big deli sandwich at Katz's deli... You can also get an unlimited metro and for the week and take the subway out to Coney Island, Williamsburg, Brooklyn heights, queens, the Bronx. I lived in NYC for 15 years and tired maybe but I was never bored. Just sitting in a cafe people watching is enough to make things fun. There are also incredible shops you can enjoy just looking around in no need to buy: fao Schwartz, lees art shop, Bloomingdales. The Chrysler building is amazing lit up at night and The Waldorf is worth taking a look at too. We stayed there on our wedding night. Even the lobby is beautiful. Enjoy your stay!

We went to NYC for 5 days just recently and left LO at home - we had a great time!!! There is so much to do and it's so nice bc the subway makes it so easy to get around and there are so many things to do within walking distance. I imagine that will make it so much easier than if you were in a different city and had to get in a car and drive to various destinations. If you're not feeling well, go take a nap and you can still get out and do so much the rest of the day/night

Fun portable games that we take camping

SET (easy and the size of like 2 decks of cards)

I'm so jealous of your 10 days in NYC! My thoughts in no particular order:
1. Could you get your hands on a prescription for Zofran? I had some unscrupulous doctor friends who were able to get it for me even though my morning sickness wasn't that bad - it made my baby moon so much more enjoyable to not feel nauseated, I felt like I could be more spontaneous and enjoy dinners & lunches out.
2. I would definitely bring scrabble - my husband and I play all the time. Also this sounds super dorky but puzzles! On holidays for some reason we always do puzzles.
3. If you feel up for it I would still try and do some of the stuff you normally do, like maybe one or two nights out of the ten you could go to a wine bar or pub, even if you won't drink it could still be lots of fun!
4. If you can find the Book of Questions at a bookstore its a great conversation starter
5. New mom broken record: SLEEP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!! Spend a day in bed cuddling and readying and kissing and whatnot.

Have an awesome time and congrats!

So this sounds so dorky, but I would love to hear how y'all bond with your husbands, especially on vacation. We are headed to NYC for ten days.

Honestly, usually when we are on vacation we eat out and drink and party and stay out super late.

Now I'm expecting and life is going to be a bit different. No drinking, staying out all night, and probably not eating out at places as fancy as we usually would. We are staying at a small air bnb so there is no lobby. There is also not a TV, not usually a bad thing. If I'm tired and we are just hanging around, I want to make sure we are not bored. Should I bring some entertainment besides books and magazines? Any easy to pick up and portable game ideas?

We had the trip booked before I found out and I still am having some problems with nausea and vomiting. Please help inspire me to make sure our trip is still really fun.
