I also use capital one 360 and do an automatic transfer every month. If you want a referral (we both get money) I can send it to you

My work just started a vacation savings account (through Outski) at the start of the year. Haven't had a chance to try it out, but it works in the idea of a health savings account.

As others have said, you can easily setup multiple accounts through Cap One and earmark them towards various expenses.

@Bao: We actually started the 52-week savings thing for our vacation fund, and it's sitting old school style in a piggy bank on our bar. Having the cash in a savings account makes me "see" it, and I don't want to know the balance or know it even exists. I don't mind that we're not earning any interest on it.

All of our accounts (checking too) are with the same Credit Union.

DH is an old soul who enjoys going to the bank and dealing with people, so once a month or so he goes there to pay his credit card (through them) and also moves money into both accounts. It's more convenient since they're all in the same place.

We don't separate our savings into categories, except for an 'emergency savings' which we have with ally bank since they had one of the highest interest rates. But that account is basically out of site out of mind. We deposit into it automatically every pay day, but honestly, I have no idea how much is even in it since we don't get statements and never check it.
... come to think of it, we should check it and make sure nothing fraudulent is happening in there!

DH and I belong to a credit union, and when you join the automatically set up a savings account and put $25 in it. So we each have an account (but we also each have access to each other's accounts)

So his is our emergency/kitchen renovation fund. Mine is now our vacation fund.

@Bao: Yea, I would set up a separate account. I think we have two. I think it's best to keep it away from everything else so that you're not tempted to dip into it for other bills/emergencies!

We have a savings account set up thru Franklin Templeton - our FP calls it a glorified savings account - its gets better interest rates than a bank but you can withdrawl w/o penalty

Not sure how to do this with out a FP though -

You should set up a Capital One 360 (Old ING) savings account. It always took a few days for transfer to our checking account, so it's not as "liquid" as savings accounts that are tied to our regular savings. Helps to put money away and not see it every day.

We have a separate savings account with Ally Bank because of the good interest rate, and that's what I've been using as my vacation fund. A friend of mine uses Smarty Pig for a bunch of fun fund stuff. It takes automatically from your account.

If you have a vacation savings account of some sort, where do you keep it? We have a regular savings, Christmas club and online savings for emergencies but I'd like to set up something specifically for vacations. We have never been on a vacation as a married couple or even a family, and would like to make that a priority in a few years. We would definitely need to start saving now to even make it possible. I would prefer something out of site out of mind.

Any ideas on how to start something like this where it's a little harder to dip into?
