My sister was the youngest and alway liked to spend money, my parents never treated her any different. They would let her make her own choice and use the opportunity as a learning experience. She eventually figured out that she wasn't going to get extra so she became more thoughtful with her choices. My siblings spent it the first couple days and I waited untill the end. It was used for souvenirs or if we bought little gifts for our friends. Since your kids are younger I would assume they aren't old enough to do stuff alone. I gave my almost 3 year old five dollars in singles on our last vacation to use for treats and it worked out pretty well. She can count to five on her fingers so I would explain that she had five dollars and she would need to give two away if she wanted her treat and have just three left. She would decide if she wanted to give her dollars away (and a couple times she said "no thank you mommy I will keep my money's"!!!). We used to get $100 to spend during our 2 week vacation to Florida. We were not required to pay for our own activities if it was something we were doing as a group (i.e. Mini putt with the family) but if we wanted to do something on our own we had to pay for it.
