What about the Niagara/Finger Lakes region? I've been there in July/August, and it was warm enough to swim in a lake, but not crazy summer heat. I bet there are some great spa/resort options, and you could do winery tours.

We’ve done Turks & Caicos in late July / August and the weather was wonderful, not too hot. I worried so much before the trip because DH hates, hates, hates the heat. And we live on the coast near HHI so I would not probably recommend that area or Sea Island which is south of us for your time of year. If you can get out on the Caribbean islands with a direct flight, the weather will be very warm, perfect for getting in the ocean, but not unbearably hot. I’d look for direct flights to an island destination with Marriotts and see what options come up.

@Foodnerd81: yes but again, I think you’ll find that (by that I mean hot and humid) everywhere in the summer in the south, southeast, east coast. The jersey shore can be really hot and humid in July. Not Florida humidity but still hot and humid. Maybe Portland Maine or Montreal? I think anywhere you are looking to go in July that isn’t a ridiculously long flight will be hot and humid. What about the coast of Oregon or Washington? Chicago? There are some nice marriot brands with rooftop pools there.

@cake2017: @Littlebit7: it’s not just hot but humid. Like isn’t Florida crazy hot and humid a lot in July? I don’t do well with humidity- though I do better with it alone on vacation than home carting my kids around!

@Foodnerd81: we did the ritz in grand cayman on Marriott points. But I think July would be crazy hot. We’ve also done the ritz in Naples, both the beach AND golf one. I also hear the ritz in Amelia Island is really nice. Can you tell my husband has a shit ton of Marriott points? I don’t know what your threshold for too hot is. I think anywhere south of the mason Dixon in July is hella hot. But I’d go to any of those places in a heartbeat without kids as long as someone is bringing me a drink with an umbrella and booze in it that I didn’t have to make myself.

I would go to Vegas, but I always want to go to Vegas. Lounge poolside, do some shopping, see some shows and eat some good food. It’ll be very hot but that’s less of a problem for you than your golfing husband!

@Foodnerd81: there are a ton of places on the east coast beaches, plus a ton of nice resorts within a 3-5 hour radius that are non beach options. Google Crystal Springs, Mohonk Mountain House, there’s a random Omni resort in northern virginia and another in Vermont, there’s Hotel Hershey in Hershey PA, and Nemacolin further out in PA. Most of these will have some families, but aren’t really geared towards family, in terms of dining choices and expense. Oh and the Sagamore at Lake George—I cant remember if there’s golfing there.

Hinton Head is a good option. Lake Placid has a lot of nice resorts, too.

Jersey Shore—Asbury Park is nice but it’s more hipstery these days, so maybe not a golfing vibe. Cape May?

If you are considering Hilton Head, you can also check out Fripp Island which has s lot of golfing (in fact, you get around by golf cart), but is very small scaled and way more relaxed with no scene/not much nightlife. It’s basically just beach, pool, some seafood, and golf.

Maybe Hilton head? Looks like there are a lot of Marriott options and the weather has a high around 90, low in the 70s, on average in July. It used to be I got mad at DH golfing while we are on vacation. Now I just want alone time so he can golf, whatever. I’ll bring my kindle and some cocktails to the pool or beach and be just fine.

We have a chance to leave my kids with my parents in NJ for a week and go on vacation, just me and DH. They live not too far from Newark airport, and we would go in early July.

Where would you go? We could drive somewhere (although we will have driven 5 hours to get from home to my parents with the kids already), or we can fly out of Newark. Probably we would go for about 5 days. I want relaxing, warm, beach or pool would be fine as long as it isn’t totally overrun with kids (I love kids but this is my first chance to leave mine behind, so...). DH would probably like to golf while I lounge at the pool or beach. Extra bonus points if there is a Marriott option since DH has a ton of points there.

Where would you go? Also I’m done with babies so not terribly worried about Zika but still not super thrilled with the idea either.
