Thanks everyone! Based on your feedback we're leaning more towards a beach vacation. Probably a week in the Caribbean. Now we just need to pick an island....

I live just north on London and we've taken our daughter there a couple times. The first time was when she was 3 months old. Its a beautiful city. I LOVE it. Id recommend anyone visit if they can.

That being said, I just booked us flights home to St Louis, C as a lap infant (i reserved a bassinet on the intl flights, but its not a 100% guarantee). I had to search carefully for them. On domestic flights, lap infants are free. On intl flights, you will pay 10% of a ticket. Some airlines are MUCH more kid-friendly than others, so research carefully. Make sure you have decently long layovers and that the planes you are flying and long distance in have accommodations for infants, not all do.

7 months is an awesome age to travel (especially if he's not crawling yet). We did both a beach vacation- awesome and easy, got him to take naps by the pool (I think heat+ sound of waves=good for sleep), and a short international flight (still not bad until they can walk). The second vacation was a tad tougher because of naps in places he wasn't used to but it was still good. Relatively vacations are much easier before they can walk, but just expect that you'll still have to deal with naps and bedtime. Think about what type of accommodation you will be in and where baby will be sleeping (the easiest for us was a hotel room with a balcony, so that we could sit outside after LO went to sleep).

We just went to the beach with our 4 month old and it was great! It was nice to be somewhere fun and not feel like we *had* to do stuff. Plus, like @sloaneandpuffy: said, "vacation + baby = not much of a vacation." It's more about making memories and less about relaxing :)

Oahu, Hawaii is an obvious choice for a lot of my West Coast friends. It's just about everyone's 1st year vacation trip from my friends w/babies.

@gingerseaglass: we just went on a cruise with our 1 yr old nice and 4 yr old nephew and they were charged full fare. I was shocked! I assumed they would get discounted fare since they barely eat and can't do much!!

An international flight will cost you 10% of the ticket price plus taxes if you don't want to ay at all, domestic may be your answer.

I think you can do almost any vacation with an infant as long as you have realistic expectations on what you will be able to experience. I always like flying somewhere when they are infants since it is free and they are generally immobile. Plane trips get hard with toddlers. We have been to Los Angeles (Disney) and San Francisco when LO was under one. Staying with family, renting an apt or an efficiency type hotel is how we like to do it. It gets stressful in a small hotel room with a tiny fridge.

At that age we just did family visits and beach trips. Vacation + baby = not much of a vacation. I think the beach is ideal because you don't have a schedule and you can lie around during the day since the baby is probably up all night trying to sleep in an unfamiliar place.

Any recommendations on good vacations for when you have a 7mo old? We got pretty far in planning an Alaskan cruise for next June, until we realized they were going to charge $600 for our infant, even thought he won't need food, a bed, etc. (we'd bring everything).

We're starting fresh from a planning perspective, and looking to go away for a week. We live in Boston, and would travel domestically or internationally. I'd love to hear where others have taken their infants < 1 year old, and how successful it was. Thanks!
