There seems to be such a mistrust of doctors and the medical field today and I just don't get it. All of my friends who are doctors worked SO hard throughout medical school and really do want to help people. Then I have other friends who start going off on how vaccines are evil and doctors just recommend them because of the big, bad, money-making pharmaceutical companies. I ask them for their "research" and they send me websites that look like they were created by a 12-year-old in 1999 with no actual, credible sources. And that's all of the extensive research they've done. Adults are meaningful transmitters (think grandparents and pertussis), but the most common transmission is kid to kid in daily activities such as school and play (for toddlers and above), while its family for infants. I thought the mmr, for example, didn't come around until the late 60's. My dad was born in 61.. Neither accepts many forms of modern medicine. Vaccines may be included in these beliefs - though I'm not sure the religions have a formal policy on them, I have heard that to receive/give them to your children would cause ostracization from other members even if not explicitly disallowed.<br /> We have a large population of Hare Krishna's where I live and a few years ago there was a measles, then a severe chicken pox outbreak within/stemming from their community.
