This doesn't suprise me, there are so many opprotunities for vaccines to be stored imporperly. A nurse who pulls it out to give a shot and forgets it's in her pocket until the end of the day and still puts it back, a pharmacist who gets busy and the cooler holding it gets warm before they put it in the fridge. I know when I worked in a clinic we stored our flu vaccines in a cooler with ice packs during the busy season and I am sure they got left out over night (we would throw them away, but I wouldn't put it past some lasy person the next to not even realise it had been out all night).

I am not saying there is really any excuse at all, but the system is full of potential for human error.

ETA: I wonder if this in any way linked to the increase in pertussis in vaccinated people or if an entire batch of the vaccine was bad?

Wow. LO had her HIB vaccines but stil caught the bacterial infection at daycare. They never could give me a straight answer about how this happened (except that it just happens sometimes). Are there questions you should ask the pediatrician?

I saw a commercial about this, but missed the show. I'm scared! LO has her first shots in the next couple of weeks, too. Ugh.

I just saw on abc news that a lot of doctors arent storing their vaccines properly, they are either too cold or not cold enough and this can affect the potency of the vaccine in some cases rendering it almost useless. This is making me nervous because LO is having her 1st round of shots next week
