The Kits area itself is busy throughout the summer but I don't think the holiday will have much of an extra effect on traffic from the airport. The Canada Day fireworks are in Coal Harbour and not English Bay so they are a bit farther away from Kits.

@muffinsmuffins: thanks!
@Autumnmama79: Thanks! Such a relief to hear. I'm more scared about the fireworks than the traffic! :P

@BabyTsMom: this year is special as it marks 150 years so I do think it will be busier than most July 1sts. Traffic from airport to kits shouldn't be too bad, at the very most 45 in heavy traffic.

As this is a special year there may be additional firework displays but usually it's just in coal harbour and not much of a disturbance at all! We are only blocks away and they never bother us or the kids.

Enjoy your stay in Vancouver!!

I'm not in Vancouver but in another big main city in Canada...it's Canada's 150th birthday this year so I think things will be a little crazier than usual across the country unfortunately. We live in the burbs and we never go anywhere near downtown on Canada Day as it's insane with people and road closures. Fireworks are usually done by 10 or 10:30 but you could have people setting them off privately later than that. Usually there's noise bylaws from 11-6 am most cities though. I would definitely check for road closures and bring a good white noise machine.

Vancouver Bees: we're traveling to Vancouver on July 1, which we just realized is Canada Day. Staying in Kits. I have two questions:
1) Is traffic going to be horrible from the airport to Kits, around 5pm?
2) Are the fireworks going to be keeping my kid up all night? Vancouver's not terribly big and I am sure there are going to be some beautiful fireworks over the water and other places.....but my anxiety about them keeping my kid up is worrisome!

Thanks in advance!
