@BabyTsMom: as some of the other girls have said I would recommend the aquarium and science world. If the weather is nice, rent bikes (with a toddler seat) and ride around the Stanley park seawall, it's pretty breathtaking. A great restaurant with kids is the Rocky Mountain flatbread co, they have a couple locations and these great little play areas for kids. Yummy, farm to table style food.

@BabyTsMom: I wouldn't say yaletown is hipster and there are plenty of ppl there with kids but there's not much besides playgrounds that kids would like. Taking the little water taxi from there to Granville island is fun tho!

@Raspberry: Awesome! Thanks for the tips!! BTW, is Yaletown too hipster/trendy for kids? i.e., is it just bars/restaurants, or is there stuff for kids to do?

@BabyTsMom: There are more pubs/restaurants now (including ones that welcome kids). Catch the #50 for a very quick bus ride to Granville Island or just bring a stroller and walk along the sea wall. Science World would also be walking distance with a stroller. It's also only a stop or two on the train to downtown for more things to do.

@smad11: thanks! where would you stay if you were us? we'll have a car. @Raspberry: the last time I saw it, Olympic Village/False Creek was still pretty barren. That was only 1-2 years after the Olympics, though. Is it much more lively nowadays? Well, lively=good for kids? What is there to do there?

Are you renting a car? Kits is nice for the beach but it will be cold by October anyway, and it's not the most convenient for public transportation. Coal Harbour and Olympic Village/False Creek as suggested above both have the sea wall while being more central to other places.

Granville island would be great with a two year old, I'm thinking specifically of the children's market they have... and the huge outdoor playground. I would also definitely go to the aquarium in Stanley Park :) It's hard to know what the weather will be like around here at that time of the year :P

@BabyTsMom: how fun! We live in coal harbour and absolutely love it with kids. We have Stanley park, the seawall, the aquarium and a playground a half a block away. Grocery store and drugstore on either side of us plus every restaurant and clothing shop you could dream of within a 3 block radius.

It's very safe and quiet at night too.

Actually thinking about putting our place up for Airbnb rental, wall me if you want more info :)

With kids I don't think Coal Harbour would be the best. It's close proximity to Stanley Park and downtown, but not close to much else that's kid-friendly. As you know, Kits is good. I would also recommend Olympic Village. It's more central to a variety of places and really beautiful right by the water.

@elchalten: We'll be there five nights. Do you think Coal Harbour would be better than Kitsilano to stay in? Last time we went, we stayed in a guest house in Kits, which was great. But kinda thinking of staying in Coal Harbour this time around.

My suggestions right in Vancouver would be::

- Granville Island
- bike ride around Stanley park
- Vancouver Aquarium
- Science World
- aquabus
- Vancouver public library
- trout Lake

How long will you be staying?

@BabyTsMom: I've visited Vancouver and Victoria separately. Work visits so I didn't have time for the ferry trip, but I really want to do it someday!!!

How long are you staying? I'd absolutely suggest taking the ferry to Victoria!! I've never done it but hear it's amazing, and Victoria is so pretty.

We're planning a trip to Vancouver sometime this fall (October?). DH and I have been there (and love it!!) multiple times, but have not been with our LO. He'll be 2 when we go, and we'll be renting an apartment/condo. We're looking at staying in the Coal Harbour or Kitsilano area.
If there's any Vancouver bees, I'd love your input and recommendations for things to do with a toddler!!
