I've known a handful of men who have and none have had problems. I've heard of men who feel fine and don't follow advice to take it easy and end up with some bad swelling.

We know so many guys who have had it done. My husband did the no scalpel thing and it was fast, easy and recovery was fine. He got more instructions and follow up after his vasectomy than I did having a baby!

@Canoli: hahaha! good luck. I was pleasantly surprised when DH started talking about it a couple months ago. I didnt take him seriously at first but I realize now he is very serious about doing it so I jumped on board the research train

@SeptMomma12: Thanks thats great information. I'll pass that on to him so he can be prepared

DH had one in October. Actually almost all of our friends have had them in the last year or two - apparently it's the cool thing to do around here :silly: The actual procedure went fine, but he fainted when he stood up, so what's supposed to be a quick in and out thing turned into a few extra hours of monitoring. They have no idea why that happened, but it has happened to him before when giving blood, so they think it's probably blood pressure related somehow. He was sore for a couple of days (frozen peas were his best friend!), but overall said the recovery was a lot easier than he expected. He hasn't gone back in to give his sample yet, so I can't say for sure it worked, but we'll know soon.

Among our friends, there seems to be a big difference in recovery between those who try to do too much too soon and those who lay low for 48 hours. Those who had complications did things like try to coach soccer the next day, etc.

@erinbaderin: The place DH is looking at also offers the no scalpel method so hopefully his outcome is like your husbands

My husband had it done in July. He did the "no scalpel" method, it took 15 minutes in the office and they sent him home with an ice pack and 2 Tylenol, which he never even took. He hasn't gone back to get tested, which really he should do, but in terms of the actual process it was easy and pretty painless.

DH had his done after our last baby. I watched the whole thing! No issues, he had some dead sperm at his 3 month checkup and needs to get retested now, but it was pretty easy. Coming from someone who had 2 C-sections, lol.

Hubs had his done in August. He was in and out of the office quickly and could drive himself home (he chose not to take the Valium; had he taken it he would have needed a ride home). He laid low all weekend and kept ice on his manbits, but by Sunday afternoon he was up and about like normal. His stitches took a bit longer to disolve than they'd told him, but no infection or anything. Little to no pain, other than discomfort from the swelling. He went back a couple weeks ago for a follow-up sperm count and it looks like he's emptied the reserves, but he has to go back again in another 2 weeks (so, like this Friday, I think) to confirm that we are free and clear! He says the surgery and recovery was not a big deal at all.

ETA: The biggest thing his doctor stressed was staying off his feet for 48 hours after surgery to minimize swelling, because that's where the trouble starts!

has your SO or DH had a vasectomy? Are you happy with the results and were there any adverse reactions? DH is convinced he is ready for it since we decided the baby factory is closed now but we only know a few people in real life you have done it. One of them said he struggled with an infection after having it done but ultimately it all cleared up. Just curious to hear more experiences.
