@AprilFool: Oh man, total baby brain & missed that completely. Oh they look great! So wear in combination with nursing pads, then? Very cool. Well, very warm. *drum bash* I am so tired.

@AprilFool: Ok, so I'm admitting defeat here - what are breast warmers? :o

@hilsy85: Thank you!! Will have a hunt down.

@Mrs.Someone: Maybe I need to find another LC to observe? I have a community nurse coming out this week to weigh miss C again, so will check with her in the meantime!

@Mrs.Someone: That was my first worry, but I literally just had my LC appt this week and they confirmed she was fine - I go back in next week for a follow up, so I'll be double/triple checking for sure!

@hilsy85: Thank you, will definitely look into the supps. Are they combined, or two separate ones?

@Iced Tea: I actually have some nifediprine here - I was on that to stop contractions during the bed rest period of this pregnancy. Good to know it's useful if it gets really bad.

@agold: The nightime periods make me think it's definitely partially cluster feeding, which would make sense since she's just hit 2 weeks old. Yowch!

They usually mean a bad latch, so I'd make an appointment with an IBCLC. Otherwise, microwaving a sock filled with rice after each feeding helped me some.

@jaguar: I had vasospasms really bad. I also have Raynaud's, which predisposes you to them.

I took the mineral and vitamin supplement regimen mentioned in that article linked above; it helped a bit but I didn't give it much time, honestly.

After a few days on the supplements, I moved to the nifedipine prescription. It did work, miraculously well (you only have to take it for a couple of weeks, and the effects last). It also helped eased my Raynauds for about a year, so I wish I had known about it earlier. The side effects during those two weeks sucked, but it was worth it for me to end the vasospasms.

I hope you get through this part quickly!

@jaguar: What's your Procardia dosage? My midwife recommended 10mg. I totally feel your pain--I walked around for weeks after E was born with microwaved rice in socks in my bra. Very, very glamorous. I hope you get some relief soon!

I'm just starting to really dislike feeding because I'm dreading the pain. And if she takes a while and fusses during the feed, they go hard and white & then it's almost impossible for her to latch and get milk again.. So we go through a cycle of dodgy latches and frustration.

Just spend an hour sobbing through a feed over this. I have Procardia here from my bedrest. Wonder if it's worth just taking it?

I have Raynaud's syndrome and so this was BRUTAL for me with E. The midwifery practice I'm delivering with just hired a new team member from Alaska, and she told me you can take a very low dose of Procardia (a blood pressure medication) to regulate the spasms. Although I'm not normally a big pill-popper, I'm totally going to try it this time because it was completely miserable the first time around. Good luck, mama!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I had vasopasm symptoms for about a week with my inverted nipple. Mine happened primarily MOTN during a cold (for CA) spell. I tried to stay covered. The LC I talked to said there was a medication I could try but it went away after about a week.

@agold: The color change was obvious for me. I would watch it but then that would mean my nipple was exposed and cold so I would stop.

I had them with my first.
I had to wait until her latch was 100% perfect before they went away. Even when it was a good latch and I didn't have pain during the feed they would hurt after.
They're so painful I how they subside soon.

@jaguar: so sorry you are experiencing this! I just came here to search the same thing!! I'm having th same problem with cold nipples being so very painful. I think my baby has as good of a latch as she can get. I saw a lactation consultant a few weeks ago. How do we keep our nipples warm??? It's not like I can dress them differently. Ha. Ugh. I dont think I have any color change. Is the color change obvious? Maybe I just haven't noticed.

@Pumuckl: at what age did your babies mouth get bigger? Maybe that's my issue.

I had them pretty bad in the beginning with DS. It hurt bad, keeping my boobs warm when outside was crucial and warm washcloths or heating pads helped after nursing. It lasted for about 1.5-2 months or so and then got better once his mouth was bigger.

Breastfeeding, man. I was so hopeful we'd have a better time this go around! Different, yes. Better... ermmmm, to be determined.

So, with G being early, she never mastered the suck/latch thing. We left hospital/special care with shields for feeding and I had to express and top her up for months until she was able to feed herself without it. We used the nipple shield for the full 12 months we breastfed. It was exhausting to say the least!

Miss C is two weeks old, and has been feeding like a champ. She latched immediately after birth and has been a good little feeder since - but my boobs haven't been behaving. Milk took a while to come in again, I had whopping engorgement that lasted for a full week, the usual sore nipples from adjusting.

Things finally settled and my boobs 'deflated' and feeds stopped hurting quite so much (even though I still need to help her latch properly, so we come on/off until it's comfortable) .. and now I'm getting pains AFTER feeding. I haven't ever experienced anything like it! Once the feed is done, my nipples go white, then purple, then pink.. and as they change, the throbbing pain starts. It's worse with the cold (standing in front of the freezer sets them off) and oh man, my nips are SO sensitive!

Anyone have any tips for vasospasms?
