@Pollywog: Thanks! They are one of the groups I've been looking into. They have a really high VBAC success rate, something like 90%! Unfortunately, yeah they don't accept insurance...bummer. I think I'll do an initial appointment with them and one with a doctor that takes my insurance.

@ElbieKay: I do live in NYC, but NJ would be super inconvenient for me. I think I'd prefer to stay within NYC.
@Beehive: Thanks, I will do that! Great idea.

@beatrixkiddo: I don't have VBAC experience, but you may want to ask this question in the UES Mommas Facebook group - questions about OBs tend to get a lot of replies. (And the membership base is much broader than just the UES).

Do you live in NYC? Is it an option to commute to NJ? I live in Hoboken and switched from a Manhattan doctor to one affiliated with a NJ hospital. My original doctor was affiliated with a hospital that subjected to being "checked" in triage before admission, and of course did not have private postpartum rooms as standard care. And the "tub" in their birthing center was so small I could not imagine it being even remotely helpful.

I had a great experience in NJ and was so glad that I switched. Unfortunately my OB retired from practice to take a teaching position, and anyway she was pretty far out in the 'burbs (Morristown) so probably unrealistic.

I have heard good things about Lonnie Morris, who is a midwife who practices in northern NJ.

I have also heard good things about Village Obstetrics as a previous poster mentioned.

I didn’t have a VBAC but I’ve heard that my dr, Katrina Bradley of Mt Sinai West, is very supportive of them. I had vaginal births with both my girls after long inductions and wasn’t pressured at all about meds (both times I waited like 12 hours on pit to get an epi....)

I haven't used them, but my coworker's ex-wife went with Village Obstebtrics. They have a great success rate, but are funny with insurance. He was pleased and said that it went far better than he would have hoped for. @beatrixkiddo:

Hello! Has anyone had a successful VBAC in NYC? I had a c-section with my daughter and just found out I'm pregnant. I would really like to avoid another c-section as I had a very bad experience. I would like to maximize my chances by finding a midwife/OB that is VBAC friendly and supports natural birth. Anyone have any recommendations in the area? I felt very pushed into induction, pitocin, and c-section with my prior OB.
