@Mrs. Jump Rope: I didn't think recovery was that bad but DH was home for 5 weeks. I had to watch LO solo around 2 weeks PP when DH participated in an day golf tournament and it was fine!

I did the labour and pushing before a c-sec. I also thought the surgery was great and recovery wonderful. My mom said I did better with the surgery than she did with the vaginal birth. My OB said that if baby comes late that we should do a repeat c-sec (or if she/he arrives earlier than 2 years after the first one). Her thinking was that we would likely have the same failure to progress problem. If Baby comes on time or early, she said VBAC is best. Better for mom (c-sec is major surgery, after all) and better for baby.

I'm not really all that interested in a vbac. I don't think I'm a candidate anyway. I was planning for a natural vaginal birth the first time around and that didn't work out but I was surprised that I wasn't disappointed. My recovery was a breeze so I'm not concerned about recovering with a toddler.

I just had a successful Vbac this month and it was great! My csection was because DS was breech and my recovery was quick as well so we weren't sure what to do at first. My OB and midwife both said that since baby being breech was the reason for my csection that I had a better chance of having a successful Vbac (my body went into labor on its own and progressed to 10cm before my csection) recovery is obviously different with a Vbac but it has been good as well. I cannot imagine taking care of my DS and recovering from a csection again. Even him sitting on my lap would be painful. DS is 21 months old and is having a hard time sharing me so I can't imagine not being able to pick him up, hold him, or play comfortably on the floor with him during the times that I can give him my full attention. But, my DH only had 1 week off work so that can make a difference too.

To be honest, I was really scared of a Vbac at first but after talking to my OB and midwife I felt more empowered and encouraged by them. One thing that wasn't fun was that during labor I had to stay in bed and hooked up to a fetal monitor to make sure everything was okay. It was hard to labor in bed until I got the epidural, but then it was more manageable.

I hope this makes some sense! Good luck with your decision, and you have plenty of time to decide!

@autumnlove: If I had to decide right now, I don't really have a huge interest in a VBAC, either. Did you find that recovery was more difficult with having two children? I'm mostly concerned about my ability to care for Chloe. Can you even lift a toddler after a CS? My gut says no.

@LuLu Mom: I don't care if I miss the experience of a vaginal birth. I want my birth to be safe for me and baby, though, and am hoping to minimize recovery time. Does that make sense?

@Mrs. Twine: thanks :) I'll be doing lots of research! Can you text me before you call today? I'm going to try to nap!

If we're being completely honest here, I'm afraid of contractions and giving birth. I had preterm labor with Chloe that gave me so.much.pain & I know that coupled with my low tolerance for pain that a VBAC would probably suck (until I got the epidural).

I had no desire to try for a VBAC, but I also had my second csection 15 months after the first. I didn't want to take any chances. Other than pain from an internal stitch, I felt recovery was easier the second time around. If I have a third, I will schedule another csection as well

I had an amazing experience with my VBAC, after an emergency c-section with my first. Labor took awhile, and pushing was really hard (but not painful - I had an epidural), but I felt so accomplished after pushing the baby out. After my son was born, the nurses pulled my I.V.s out and I was free to move around and eat and drink, unlike with my c-section where I was bed-ridden and hooked up to machines for 3 days. The next day, my body was really sore, but it was a good sore like I had worked out really hard.

I plan on another VBAC with my third, and maybe even an unmedicated one this time. My doctor is totally down with it, "no drugs, all woman," as she likes to say.

Hi! I'm currently 32 weeks today. Yay! I also had a breech c section in July 2011 for little girl. Baby #2 is NOT breech so we are going ahead with a VBAC with our OBs happy approval. I believe a VBaC is truly a safer decision if all risk factors are removed.

Interested in responses. I had an emergency c-section & had a very positive experience/recovery. I've always been scared of VBAC but always would like to experience a vaginal birth. My DH is against it as a coworker's wife almost lost her and the baby's life during hers so he doesn't even want to discuss it with #2 because of her experience, but I'm open to the discussion.

I would have killed to have had my VBAC. Most people I know who have had a VBAC says the recovery is so much easier, and (especially if you are able to do it in a supported setting) there are some wonderful health-related positives for mom and baby associated with having a VBAC.

My doctor warned me that I might face fertility issues due to some serious uterine scarring from my first c/s, and that I wouldn't be an ideal candidate for another pregnancy and birth. This doesn't happen to all, or probably even most, women who have repeat c/s, but it is something to think about.

Now is a great time to start looking into your options and gather information. I wanted all my ducks in a row before we even started TTC because having a chance at a VBAC was very important to me. I interviewed midwives, called every hospital within a three-hour drive, and read lots of studies and information online prior to my pregnancy. Things didn't work out the way we planned, but I am still really glad that I did all that work.

I am jumping the gun here since I don't even know if I am a VBAC candidate, but what was your preference?

- I had a section with Chloe (breech) and it was a positive experience with minimal recovery time. I'd happily have an RCS.
- but, I worry about a more difficult recovery with a toddler. My husband has 3 weeks paternity leave & my mom is local to help.

Thoughts? Experiences? Preferences?
