@Mrs. Goose: Yes, I am liking it. There's a time commitment to learn and practice it, so I'm glad I started early.

I started it at the recommendation of a friend. She planned a VBAC for her second using hypnobabies. It worked so well for her that she denied she was in real labor until she was about to push her baby out. I thought that was a fabulous endorsement!

I had to have some blood draws recently and decided to try a bit of self-hypnosis to see if it made it more comfortable; it seemed to work!

I had a successful vbac! I had to be induced with my first at 39 weeks due to low fluid and cord issues. After a full day with no real progress, we had to do a c-section. The recovery was awful, maybe because of all the drugs and fluids I had during the induction on top of the csection.

Iwas really worried about something similar happening with my second but I went into labor naturally at 37 weeks. My labor went super fast, so fast I never got the epidural I thought I wanted. Baby was fine and recovery was 1000% easier. Hoping for the same for all of you!

Thanks for this thread. I'm 20 weeks and planning a VBAC as well.

First c-section: a very long labor with transfer (simply due to time) from the birth center to the hospital. Baby believed to not be in optimal position. At shift change I got a horrible nurse who was in a rush and declared me ready to push, despite my insistence that I wanted to wait for the urge. I tried pushing in many different positions, and didn't feel it was working. At this point we really should have insisted on laboring down. When the OB came in to check on us, the nurse claimed I'd been pushing 4.5 hours (which was a bold-faced lie; it had been 2.5). He said he wasn't willing to turn her or use the vacuum; he only recommended a c-section. I got an infection and had a rough recovery. I feel confident that I could have delivered my first vaginally if I'd been better supported, so I very much want a VBAC.

I'm doing the hypnobabies home study course, which I find helpful for reducing the fear of having another difficult labor. But even if labor went the same way, I know I'm better supported this time, so the outcome could still be better. I've hired a different midwife, one that will stay with me as a deluxe doula if I were transferred to the hospital.

Thanks for starting this! I'm hoping for a vbac as well.

Last pregnancy I went into labor 40+4, everything seemed to be going well until I was 9cm and the doc told me I would be pushing within the hour. An hour later, still at 9..... and hour later, still at 9.... for almost 8 hours. The doc then informed me I was never going to dilate to a full 10 and I needed to have a csection. There were other factors such as E being sunny-side up, and his heart rate dropping. But sometimes I question how necessary it was. I found out later that the hospital has a very high csection rate.

I really want a vbac for a number of reasons. My recovery was horrible last time. I couldn't walk or get out of bed on my own for weeks. I will have an 18 mo old when LO2 comes who will not understand why mommy can't pick him up. We also want a larger family and the risk goes up with each csection.

I am 25.5 weeks now so I will update in a few months how everything turned out. I hope to read lots of success stories on here!

I got permission to share my friend's story:

She went into labor at 40 + 3 with her first ... labored for several hours, started pushing, and then the doc said the baby was too big (and her pelvis was too small). Emergency c-section, resulting in a 8 lb. baby. It was so hard for her, because she felt like she had to recover vaginally as well as from the c-section.

With her 2nd, she really wanted a VBAC. She was told by her midwife group there was no indication her pelvis was too small, and she was a good candidate for VBAC. She ended up going into spontaneous labor at 40 + 3 again, and delivered at 10 lb. baby without any intervention or tearing!!

I believe the group she joined was called ICAN (or something very similar), and the resources and support were really helpful to her.

I hope you get the birth and support you're looking for!!

I remember posting after I had my first baby and I have searched on here a few times, but wondered if people would like to post their vbac successes and attempts. There have probably been quite a few more since I first posted (Oct. 2015).

I'm currently 12.5 weeks and hoping to have a vbac. My first was an induction at 42 weeks, with no prior BH or indications that labour was coming (ever). I had a couple of stretch and sweeps and started labour at 1-2 cm dilated with my water being broken straight away and pitocin. It ended in a c-section after I pushed for a few hours and she was deemed stuck. She was 9.14 at birth.

So I'd love to hear your stories! (or even if you're planning/hoping to have one too and come back to update as well :) And a brief history of your first c-section. Thanks. It's so hard to navigate being stressed out about whether or not I'll even go into labour and it will happen or not, along with worries about all the risks to me and baby in both situations.
