I've read it's safest to keep your airbags enabled while pregnant. I did not disable mine.

After all, if you are seriously injured or die, the baby's chances of survival become slim.

I think the safest thing for you to do is to keep them on and to wear the seat belt as intended with the lap belt low across your hips under the bump and the shoulder belt across chest, between breasts.(there are some awful products that lift the seatbelt up over the bump which is SUPER dangerous for the baby)

I asked my midwife this question; she said to leave them on. She said preventing trauma to me was preventing trauma to the baby. So mine are still on.

Thanks for posting, I'd never even thought about the airbags being potentially harmful!

I was in a car accident at 18 weeks and my side airbags deployed, possibly saving me from hitting my head on the glass due to impact. I would not disable!

Nope. Some guy plowed into my old car several years ago, and the airbags saved me from a serious head injury. I walked away a bit rattled, instead of being taken away in an ambulance.

Heck no, I'm leaving those suckers on. They just recommend to sit as far back as you can, not to disable them, I thought?

I know this sounds harsh, but at this point, I would rather save my own life than die in a car crash because airbags "might" hurt the baby.

We were both fine! We were transported by ambulance to the nearest ER and I was observed in Labor and Delivery for the whole day. I had a bit of vaginal bleeding so I thought I miscarried but LO was fine and I was just bruised, cut, sore and an emotional MESS.

@sorrycharlie: Not sarcastic at all. I have heard of it, but not sure if it's the way to go. I don't want to spread misinformation, I'm just not sure if the airbag could hurt the baby if it went off.

@autumnlove: Wow, good to know. And was your baby ok too?

I didn't. I was involved a huge car accident around week 23 and my airbags saved my life!

I have not had them disabled. Is that a common thing? I've never heard of anyone doing that! (I hope that didn't come off as sarcastic, so hard to convey online! I'm truly curious!)
