Sort of an irritating update - I finally got through to my midwife's nurse yesterday. She told me that if my bleeding was gone, and I didn't have any cramping, that it was most likely a chemical pregnancy and that it ought to be done. But obviously to call back if I had any more bleeding.

Well, of course now I am. At night. On a weekend. So I'll be calling back tomorrow and going through the same question routine. Irritating!

@sarac: glad you're going in. Let us know how it goes! Also, good call to the ladies who mentioned ectopic...I had forgotten about that. With my second loss, they suspected ectopic, but it turned out not to be the case. Better to be checked out, though!

Oh, I'm just being dramatic - I'm fine here. I hadn't considered that as a possibility, though, so I'm really glad I posted. I've got an appointment tomorrow morning.

Oh, no, I didn't intend to freak you out just caution you that there was a *chance* it was something serious. I do think it's good you're calling your doctor. You could also take a home pregnancy test.

As someone who also had an ectopic last year, I second @mango.sprays' suggestions. I never had cramping, just lots of bleeding... I was fortunate that it was diagnosed and treated before anything ruptured.

I don't post much here, but just wanted to advise getting checked out. I had an ectopic pregnancy last year, and what I thought was a two/three week period & spotting ended up being my only clue. Eventually I had some cramping which got severe over the next few hours and I found out (in the ER) that my tube had ruptured. Don't want to alarm you at all, but your thought process and symptoms just sounded too familiar.... Take a pregnancy test if you have one. If its positive get checked out ASAP (obviously!).

First, I'm sorry you are going through this. If what you experienced was a loss, and it sounds like it possibly could have been, it is such a hard thing to deal with. Hugs.

Secondly,if this was loss, you may already have bled too long. With my early loss at 4 weeks, my doctor said to call back if I was still bleeding a week later to make sure they didn't need to do a d and c to get remaining tissue and prevent infection.

Does your midwife not have emergency hours/appointments? If not, would you be comfortable going to an urgent care?

Feel better!

I'm not sure there's anything you can do at this point, even if it was a chemical pregnancy (and I'm really sorry if it was). I would give it a little while longer, but talk to your doctor - I know that there can be some negative reactions if you bleed too long (anemia, etc). I'm not sure if a pregnancy test would pick up any hormones, but I'm thinking if it keeps lasting, they might want to do an ultrasound to see if there's any tissue or anything in your uterus.

Hope it stops soon!

Ladies, I'm at a loss here. My periods have been pretty regular and fairly light the past 6 months (22 months post partum, still breastfeeding). This past period came a few days late, and it lasted for two weeks. With the second week being very heavy. Since it 'ended', I've had more bleeding, culminating in a big one last night after some intimacy.

Now I'm wondering if I've had a chemical pregnancy. We've been NTNP for over a year, but I needed clomid the last time, so I wasn't expecting to get pregnant. I guess I'm wondering - what if anything should I do? Hope the bleeding stops? Ignore this mild cramping I'm now having? My midwife is booked for a month, and I don't have an OB, so going in to see someone is a pain that I don't know if I need to go through. Kind of at a loss as to how to proceed.
